On September 9, 2009, at his request, the Argonauts released Jarrett. He gave up playing football in 2010, and he now conducts his own radio program on ChicagolandSportsRadio.com, the Jarrett Payton Show.

In addition, WGN-TV recruited Payton as a sports reporter on May 8, 2015. Jarrett hosts the program on Chicagoland Television.

Moreover, Payton played football and wore the numbers 4 for Miami, 33 for the Titans, and 34 for the NFL. Because it was Earl Campbell‘s retired number, Jarrett decided to wear it for the Titans.
