The Sacramento Kings texted Thompson’s agent five minutes before the announcement to inform him that his client would be the 12th overall choice. Thompson had beautiful eyes.

Jason Thompson held off on letting the information sink in until he saw his name read aloud on television.

“I always used to help out with my grandmother at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Tabernacle Burlington,” Thompson recalled. “Since my grandma typically volunteered at soup kitchens and helped others, I recall as a little child always wanting to help around the house.”

College Career

Lenape High School won the Group IV state championship in New Jersey in 2004 under the direction of Jason Thompson, a resident of Mount Laurel, New Jersey.

He played for the Rider Broncs men’s basketball team in 2006–07 and averaged 20 points and ten rebounds per game throughout his succeeding four collegiate seasons.

Three NCAA athletes participated in this in 2006–07. The athlete was one of them.

Thompson averaged 20.4 points, 2.7 assists, 12.1 rebounds, 2.7 blocks, and 1.1 steals per game during his senior season in 2007-08.

Against Marist College on March 9, 2008, he recorded 32 points and 18 rebounds in his best performance. Despite Thompson’s 22 points and 12 rebounds, Rider lost 74-53.

Despite having a strong conference tournament record and a regular season record of 23-10, he was denied an at-large spot in the NIT.

Rider, on the other hand, received a tournament invitation to the 2008 College Basketball Invitational. He concluded his college career as the top rebounder in Bronc’s history.

Professional Career

The former Lenape High School standout played in the NBA for eight seasons, seven of which were spent with the Sacramento Kings, who took him with the 12th overall pick in the 2008 NBA Draft.

His final two NBA seasons were in 2015–16 with the Golden State Warriors and Toronto Raptors. He has since played professionally in other countries for the past three years.

The big man left the NBA after the 2015–16 campaign to play in the Chinese League, where he made his debut with the Shandong Golden Stars in 2016.

Thompson’s first experience playing basketball in Europe occurred during the 2017–18 campaign when he signed with Fenerbahce under Zeljko Obradovic, a year after the Turkish team won its first-ever EuroLeague championship.

Despite having little time on the court, he rapidly won over the crowd’s affection.

In February 2020, just a few weeks before the COVID-19 outbreak caused a halt to all operations, he agreed to a contract with Casademont Zaragoza.

On January 7, 2022, Thompson was acquired by the Wisconsin Herd using the open player pool.

After graduating from Rider University and winning a state championship in high school, they both desired to play in the NBA. Sadly, not all of their wishes were fulfilled.

His performance in the television drama General Hospital is also well-known. On February 1, 2020, he committed to Casademont Zaragoza of the Liga ACB.

Donations Work

When his cousin Tiffany passed away from a heart condition at the age of 25 in 2010, just as Jason’s career as a sophomore at King’s was taking off, he and his family were crushed.

The heartbreaking news of her passing motivated the footballer to start the JT Foundation and advocate for heart health.

The organization aggressively pursues methods to address day-to-day heart health concerns while aiming to positively impact children and young people in “new and effective ways.”

Since 2007, Thompson has operated his own JT Elite Basketball Camp. Along with raising social consciousness, the Foundation wants to improve people’s quality of life.

Children from all across the country are welcome to study and hone their talents with the seasoned Zaragoza star every summer.

Due to the difficulties brought on by the coronavirus outbreak that made this year’s camp necessary to cancel, it was abandoned in 2020.

Thompson also organizes 12 basketball clinics annually for 200–250 kids. The first eight competitions took place in Sacramento, and the last four were hosted at RiverWinds in West Deptford.
