Similarly, Mickens participated in college football at Washington, where he played for most of his career while switching from the number 4 to the number 1.

This occurred before he was eligible for the 2016 NFL Draft, which occurred between his junior and senior years.

During his junior and senior years, he led the team in catches and receiving yards, but because of his uneven play, he was never ranked among the top 10 in the league.

During his first season, he also served as the Huskies’ kick returner, although during his tenure in college, he only succeeded in returning four kickoffs for scores.

Oakland Riders’ practice squad in 2016 chose Jaydon. After that, he participated in team play in 2017 before leaving on September 2.

Oakland Raiders

Mickens, an undrafted free agent, agreed to a deal with the Oakland Raiders on May 12, 2016. On September 3, 2016, the Raiders released him, and the next day he was signed to the practice squad.

Additionally, Jaydon spent the whole 2016 season with the practice squad until joining the Raiders on January 9, 2017, as part of a reserve/future agreement. On September 2nd, 2017, the group let him go.

Jacksonville Jaguars

Mickens joined the Jacksonville Jaguars practice squad on September 19, 2017. On October 21, 2017, he was added to the active roster.

In Week 9, he also took home the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week honor after beating the Cincinnati Bengals 23-7 with a 63-yard punt return touchdown in the fourth quarter.

The Jaguars scored a touchdown and went up by 14 points against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 14 when Jaydon returned a punt 72 yards before being stopped at the one-yard line. They were honored as the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week.

Before Week 15, he had had one reception, but in the playoff-clinching 45-7 victory over Houston, he had four, accumulating 61 yards and two scores in the second quarter.

Mickens was placed on injured reserve on October 15, 2018, following an ankle injury that occurred in Week 6.

Carolina Panthers

Mickens was purchased by the Carolina Panthers on July 24, 2019. As a result of the last roster cutbacks, he was discharged on August 30, 2019.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

On December 19, 2019, Mickens was also added to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers practice squad. He was added to the active roster on December 24, 2019.

Additionally, he was released on July 31, 2020, and then re-signed on August 9. Jaydon was put on the reserve/COVID-19 list by the team on November 14, 2020, and he was activated on November 30.

On December 7, 2020, he was then released, and two days later, he was re-signed to the practice squad.

Mickens joined the active roster on December 30, 2020. Jaydon Mickens also won the Super Bowl.

Promotion to Active Roaster

On Wednesday, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers placed running back Kenjon Barner on injured reserve to create room for wide receiver Jaydon Mickens on the active roster.

This year, Mickens was more of a special team contributor for the Bucs than an offensive threat.

With just seven catches on 10 targets for 58 yards, he was far down the depth chart, behind Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Antonio Brown, Scotty Miller, and Justin Watson.

The 27-year-old has also returned 12 kickoffs for 289 total yards and 15 points for 99 yards in nine games this season.

Mickens is only likely to concentrate on special teams for the rest of the season, so fantasy managers should ignore him.

Rejoins Buccaneers After Clearing Waivers

Tampa Bay Buccaneers kick and punt returner Jaydon Mickens was placed on waivers on Monday, but after going unclaimed, he was added back to the practice squad the next day.

This season, Mickens returned 27 times for 388 yards, but Kenjon Barner seems to have supplanted him on the special teams.

Mickens has only made seven catches for 58 yards this season due to the number of wide receiver options available, making him more of a team value for the Buccaneers’ defense and special teams than a stand-alone asset.

Regardless of who returns kicks, Tampa Bay has established itself as a top D/ST thanks to its strong defense, particularly against the run.

Buccaneers Waiving Jaydon Mickens

Wide receiver and kick returner Jaydon Mickens is reportedly being released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday.

In addition to returning 21 kicks and punts, Mickens caught seven passes for the team this season.

Despite having seven receptions for 58 receiving yards this year, he hasn’t played since Week 9.

Mickens only recorded 13 receptions for 135 yards and two touchdowns in three NFL seasons, the first two of which were spent in Jacksonville.

With Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Antonio Brown, Scotty Miller, Justin Watson, and rookie Tyler Johnson as Tampa Bay’s top receivers, Mickens is no longer on the roster.
