Jeffery Maggert is a professional golfer who has been active since 1986 and has drawn a lot of attention to the sport. He also competes on the PGA Tour and the PGA Tour Champions.

Early Life, Family, and Education

Jeff Maggert was born on February 20, 1964, in Columbia, Missouri, USA. Jeff grew raised on a golf club in The Woodlands, Texas.

In terms of Jeff’s family, his parents married when they were 18 in 1960 and divorced 30 years later, in 1990.

Maggert earned the most money on the Ben Hogan Tour that year. When he initially received the news, he was furious and disgusted with both of them.

Jeff, who is now a professional golfer, attended McCullough High School. He went on to study at Texas A&M University.

It was only natural for Jeff to obtain golf clubs because he lived near a golf course, which resulted in him being an All-American member of the university golf team.

Professional Career

Jeff became a professional golfer in 1986, after years of training and playing. He began his career on the Web.com Tour, which is now known as the Ben Hogan Tour.

Similarly, he was voted Tour Player of the Year in 1990 after winning two events, the Ben Hogan Knoxville Open and the Ben Hogan Buffalo Open.

The following year, he joined the PGA Tour and has since been a regular member of the best professional golf tour for men in the United States.

Jeff won his first Tour victory in 1993 at the WGC-Andersen Consulting Match Play Championship.

He won the Walt Disney World/Oldsmobile Classic, which increased his net worth, but he had to wait six years for his second championship.

His third victory came at the FedEx St. Jude Classic, when he defeated Tom Pernice, Jr. by three strokes, increasing his fortunes even more.

Jeff has 15 PGA Tour second-place finishes and three event wins, which have increased his earnings. He has joined the PGA Tour Champions, formerly known as the Senior PGA Tour.

Maggert owns two of the 18 major albatrosses, one from the 1994 Masters with a massive 222-yard 3-iron hole-out at the par-5 13th and another from the 2001 British Open at Royal Lytham & St Annes.

He has never won a major in his career, but according to sources, he owns 11 percent of all albatrosses in major tournament history.

On November 10, 2019, Maggert won the Charles Schwab Cup Championship, the season-ending tournament on the PGA Tour Champions. He was last spotted making a birdie putt in the second round of the Cologuard Classic in 2021.

Jeff has been married to Michelle Garrett since 2000, and the pair now has two children. This is not, however, his first marriage.

Previously, he was married to Kelli J. Hess. Kelli was his high school love, but they were divorced.

Soon after his divorce, the golfer went public with his now-wife and then-girlfriend, Michelle, at the Olympics.

He won the Andersen Consulting Match Play Championship in February and received a $1 million first-place award. Austin was in the exhibit with her seven-year-old son, Phillip.

Since then, the couple has remained together and has two twin children (whose birth he could be present for, thanks to skipping a Ryder Cup).

“This is probably as good as a divorce could be. He’s spending more time with the kids. I now see Jeff more the way other people do, as aloof and uncommunicative. In the long run, I think Michelle and I will talk more than Jeff and I ever did. She’s a communicator.”

Controversy

Michelle Austin Maggert, Jeff Maggert’s wife, met Jeff Maggert while running a bar at a private party for the catering firm she worked for.

Jeff was married to Kelli Maggert at the time, but the pair went to marital counseling because they couldn’t communicate with one other. In a nutshell, Jeff was searching for a divorce.

However, Kelli and Jeff’s marriage was far from flawless in the long term. Kelli was taken aback when Jeff revealed his desire for a divorce.

It also irritated Jeff’s parents and, no doubt surprised the Tour.

In an interview, Maggert said that,

“People used to think that everything in our marriage life was hunky-dory with us.”

He and Kelli went to marriage therapy for years. Maggert believes it was supportive, but the marriage did not last.
