Curler Jennifer Jones is a professional Candia Curler. As the skip of the Canadian team during the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, she won the Olympic curling title. Jones is the first female skip to complete the Games without suffering a loss.

Early Life, Parents, Siblings, and Education

On July 7, 1974, Jennifer Jones was born in Manitoba, Canada. She has a sister named Heather who is 18 months older than her and is the second child of Larry Jones and Carol Jones.

It’s not surprising that she developed her extraordinary curling skills because her parents were competitive curlers.

Jennifer attended General Vanier School in South Winnipeg for her primary education and Windsor Park College for her secondary education.

Regarding her higher education, Jones graduated from the University of Manitoba with a B.A. in both psychology and economics. She has an LLB as well.

Career

Jones took an early interest in curling because she was born into a family of competitive curlers.

Her volleyball coach once queried her on whether she wanted to play volleyball or curling.

Jones has since started to focus more on curling. In 1990, Jennifer took part in her maiden Junior Championship. At the time, she was fifteen.

The team that her dad coached had other players on it, and one of them was her sister.

Despite the fact that they lost, Jones felt as though her desire to play curling and succeed in these competitions had been validated. The Curler quickly won three provincial junior championships and a junior national championship.

Getting that perfect shot

In addition to Cathy Overton, Jill Officer, and Cathey Gauthier, Jennifer participated in the 2005 Scott Tournament of Hearts.

Her team was already trailing when Jonas made her shot, which came last in the competition. Although she was responsible for the triumph, there was very little likelihood that it will occur.

Jones was a member of the team that included Georgina Wheatcroft, the 2000 World Champion, but due to their lackluster result at the trial, Jones was unable to compete in the Olympics.

Later, she competed in numerous more international competitions, but she was unsuccessful in winning any medals.

The record-setting victory

The season of curling had been heartbreaking, but Jennifer had shown everyone who she was. She broke records by taking home numerous prizes at regional, national, and international competitions.

The Canadian has also claimed 11 victories in the provincial championship of Manitoba.

Jones is the Curler with the most Tournament of Hearts appearances and victories.

She has also competed in six other World Championships, where she has won four medals.

The Canadian also won two gold medals in a ten-year span, one in 2008 and the other in 2018. Silver and bronze medals were awarded to her in 2015 and 2011, respectively.

Since their professional trajectories are similar, they frequently cross each other’s highways. They would occasionally practice curling while taking part in the same competition.

They were professional friends, but they never imagined they would get married. Jones’ Olympic success in Sochi captured Liang’s attention.

Liang admitted that he wasn’t initially interested in watching ladies curl. But after witnessing Jones win that gold at the Olympics, she became his greater motivation. He wished to get to know her better.

There were some rumors about them, though. They were able to keep their relationship a secret until Jones became pregnant with his child.

They decided to marry in Mexico in 2015 to further their relationship. Liang, who is five years younger than she is, has a son from her ex-wife.
