Jeremy Lee Renner is an American actor and musician. Prior to moving on to bigger productions like S.W.A.T. and 28 Weeks Later, he started out as an actor, playing small parts in independent films like Dahmer and Neo Ned. He goes by the name Hawkeye because of his titular role as an archer in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Jeremy Renner | Early Life, Family, and Education

Renner was born in Modesto, California, to mother Valerie Cearley and father Lee Renner, who managed the Modesto bowling alley McHenry Bowl in the 1980s.

The youngest of seven children was born in 2011 and, at the age of 40, took on the role of the new big brother. Renner graduated from Fred C. Beyer High School in Modesto. It was in 1989.

He majored in criminology and computer technology while attending Modesto Junior College before opting to pursue acting after taking a theatrical class as an alternative.

Early Career

Renner made his acting debut as a struggling student in the 1995 comedy National Lampoon’s Senior Trip. Renner had a minor role in a 2001 CSI: Crime Scene Investigation episode. He worked as a makeup artist during this time to make ends meet.

Breakthrough

In the 2002 movie Dahmer, Renner portrayed the movie’s titular serial killer, Jeffrey Dahmer. His performance received praise, and he was put forward for the Independent Spirit Award for Best Lead Male.

He also appeared in Pink’s 2003 music video for the song “Trouble” as a Bad Boy Sheriff. Later, Renner played Colin Farrell’s former police partner in the films The Heart Is Deceitful Above All Things (2004) and S.W.A.T. (2003).

Moreover, in the 2005 movie A Little Trip to Heaven, Renner co-starred with Julia Stiles and Forest Whitaker. He plays a neo-Nazi skinhead who checks himself into a mental hospital in the movie Neo Ned with Gabrielle Union. The film won awards at numerous film festivals, including Best Actor at the Palm Beach International Film Festival.

Additionally, in the uncredited, supporting role in the skateboarding film Lords of Dogtown, Renner is the manager of Emile Hirsch’s character. He and Ginnifer Goodwin co-starred in the 2006 movie Love Comes to the Executioner.

Renner received accolades for his role as Sergeant William James, a bomb disposal specialist, in the 2009 drama The Hurt Locker about the Iraq War. After that, for the role, he won numerous awards in the Best Actor category and was nominated for Best Actor at the Academy Awards for the first time. He also won a Screen Actors Guild Award.

Renner won praise for his performance in Ben Affleck’s 2010 movie The Town, which also starred Blake Lively, Michael Yebba, Jon Hamm, and Slaine. Renner was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor a second time.

Marvel Cinematic Universe

In order to introduce Hawkeye to the public before The Avengers’ May 2012 release, Renner performed the character in an uncredited cameo as part of the 2011 movie Thor. Renner played Hawkeye once more in the summer blockbuster Captain America: Civil War, starring Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson. He reprised his role as Hawkeye in 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, the sequel to The Avengers. Renner played the role of Hawkeye in a number of scenes for the movies Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.

Other Projects

Renner starred in the action-horror film Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters. Renner was a part of the film’s whole cast, which was directed by David O. Russell and based on the divisive FBI ABSCAM operation of the late 1970s and early 1980s. In the December 2013 film, Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper, Amy Adams, and Jennifer Lawrence all had significant roles.

He returned to the Mission: Impossible franchise in the July 2015 movie Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation.

Renner directed and produced The Founder, a 2016 film starring Michael Keaton as Ray Kroc. In addition to playing the drums, guitar, keyboard, and singing, Renner is a musician. Early in his acting career, he had a part in the Sons of Ben.
