Jimmy Kimmel made fun of the Academy for handling Will Smith and Chris Rock’s slapping case at the Oscars 2022. He mocked Will Smith for getting the Best actor award even after being an assailant.
Jimmy Kimmel mocks the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in his opening monologue at the 2023 Oscars. He talked about last year’s Oscars and the incident between Will Smith and Chris Rock. His statements clearly say he was against what happened at the time. On Sunday, Jimmy also talked about Will Smith slapping incident.
As everyone knows what happened in last year’s Oscars. Will Smith went on a stage and slapped Chris Rock after Chris joked about his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith. Rock joked about Jada’s alopecia which Will couldn’t resist and slapped him on the stage.
After this incident, he got an award for “Best Actor” at the Oscars 2022 and also got a chance to give a speech. However, many people including celebrities expected he will be thrown out after slapping Rock. Though it didn’t happen and Jimmy Kimmel also talked about the same thing on Sunday. Firstly, he began his statement by saying,
“We know this is a special night for you. We want you to have fun. We want you to feel safe … and, most importantly, we want me to feel safe.”

In addition to that, Jimmy indirectly made fun of Will Smith and said,
“So, we have strict policies in place: If anyone in this theater commits an act of violence at any point in this show, you will be awarded the Oscar for Best Actor and permitted to give a 19-minute-long speech”
The angerness and not being satisfied with the decision were clearly seen in Jimmy Kimmel’s speech. He on the other hand stated that the assailant should get a hug instead. Furthermore, Kimmel stated,
“If anything unpredictable or violent happens during this ceremony, just do what you did last year — nothing. Sit there and do absolutely nothing. Maybe even give the assailant a hug.”

Not only this, but Jimmy also warned everyone not to get mad at him because he has his friends on his side. Kimmel also called out some of the actors’ names as a joke.

Jimmy Kimmel also thinks about Will Smith’s apology is fake towards Rock after the slap. Though he twice apologized for what he has done everyone thinks he is doing it for his fame. Besides, Jimmy took the names of Michael B. Jordan, “The Mandalorian” star Pedro Pascal, and Andrew Garfield who is an actor in “Spider-Man”. He relates his friends in a statement that says,
“And if any of you get mad at a joke and you decide you want to come up here and get jiggy with it, it’s not going to be easy. There are a few of my friends you’re going to have to get through first.”

Apart from this, Will Smith and Chris Rock’s relationship will not be normal as per the sources. Even though Smith has apologized publicly but Rock hasn’t responded to any of them. Similarly, the source also mentioned that Rock didn’t receive Smith’s phone at the time. The source said,
“Will did call Chris last year after the Oscars, but Chris didn’t pick up. And they haven’t spoken since.Will has not apologized to Chris Rock in person — and Chris isn’t expecting it”
Talking about the 2023 Oscars, Will Smith didn’t attend the show as he has been banned from all the Academy events for 10 years. Meanwhile, Chris Rock also didn’t show his appearance at the 2023 Oscars. When he was asked about hosting the next academy award show, he said it feels like returning to a crime scene. So, according to the comedian, he declined an invitation of hosting the Oscars 2023.
