The American media personality and former rapper Joseph Anthony Budden II, better known as Joe Budden. He first gained fame as a rapper with the hip-hop group Slaughterhouse and the top 40 single “Pump It Up.”

On 31 August 1980, in the Upper Manhattan neighborhood of East Harlem, New York City. Joseph Budden and Fay Southerland gave birth to Budden. When he was thirteen, he and his mother relocated to Jersey City, New Jersey, where he attended Lincoln High School.

A recurring theme in Budden’s music is the absence of his father when he was a child.

Budden was transferred to Laurinburg Institute in North Carolina because of his behavior as a kid.

Early Career

When he teamed up with producer Dub-B, popularly known as White Boy, he first put out mixtapes and demos in 2001. One of these mixtapes was ultimately sent to DJ Clue, the host of Hot 97 and the head of the Desert Storm Records record label.

After quickly becoming a mixtape regular, Budden inked a sizable record deal with Def Jam Recordings in 2002. The first thing that got people’s attention was his promotional track “Focus,” which ran for seventeen weeks and peaked at No. 43 on the US Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.

The song was also used in the video games Def Jam Vendetta, Def Jam Fight for NY, and Madden NFL 2004 as well as on the soundtracks of hit movies including You Got Served (2004) and 2 Fast 2 Furious (2003).

While a Def Jam member, he released two mixtapes. He had plans to release a second album, but the project encountered various obstacles including disagreements with Def Jam.

In December 2007, Joe and Amalgam Digital reached a multi-album pact.

His Studio Albums

On October 28, 2008, Budden’s third studio album, Halfway House, became exclusively downloadable digitally. In its debut, Budden had his first appearance on the Billboard 200 in five years.

Additionally, Budden’s fourth album, Padded Room, sold 13,451 copies in its first week of availability to debut at No. 42 on the US Billboard 200 chart and No. 2 on the Top Independent Albums chart.

Budden’s fifth album, Escape Route, was made available on August 11th, 2009.

Moreover, on August 28, 2012, Slaughterhouse released its second studio album, Welcome to Our House, which debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and No. 1 on the Billboard Top Rap Albums after selling 52,000 copies in its first week.

On October 16, 2012, Budden released “She Don’t Put It Down,” a single featuring Lil Wayne and Tank.

Similarly, No Love Lost by Budden was released on February 5, 2013, and after selling 30,000 copies in its first week, it debuted at No. 15 on the Billboard 200 chart. Budden’s seventh studio album, All Love Lost, was released on October 16, 2015, to largely favorable reviews from critics.

Moreover, The dates of Budden’s final solo tour were made public on May 16, 2016. Budden released the song “Making A Murderer Part I” on July 2, 2016, and it primarily attacks Meek Mill and Drake, a Canadian rapper.

Budden’s eighth and final solo album, Rage & The Machine, was produced entirely by AraabMUZIK and released on October 21, 2016. In addition, on May 14, 2018, it was revealed that Budden and Sean Combs would work together to develop and produce the discussion show State of the Culture, which debuted on September 10, 2018.

On August 27, 2020, Budden announced that he would be leaving Spotify after his contract owing to a dispute over money.

In November 2018, Budden returned on the ninth season of Love & Hip Hop: New York.

On February 3, 2021, Budden announced that he would be releasing original podcast content on the crowdsourcing website Patreon.

Budden was given a $75 parking ticket on March 30, 2012, spent the night in jail and was unable to go to a Slaughterhouse concert in his hometown. Budden was detained in 2014 as a result of accusations that he attacked his fiancée and took her cell phone.

He then made an appearance in Manhattan Criminal Court to answer accusations of robbery, assault, and grand larceny. Budden has openly spoken out against drug use despite having admitted to having a PCP and later MDMA addiction. He has since stopped using drugs.

A father of two, Budden. His oldest kid, Joseph Budden III, was born when Budden was 20 years old. On December 15, 2017, Budden and model and YouTube hottie, Cyn Santana had their second kid, Lexington.
