American producer, television personality, singer, songwriter, and actor Kandi Lenice Burruss Tucker (born May 17, 1976) is also known professionally by the moniker Kandi. As a member of the female vocal ensemble Xscape, she came to public attention for the first time in 1992.

On the 17th of May, 1976, Kandi Lenice Burruss was born in College Park, Georgia. When he was 22 years old, her older brother Patrick perished in an automobile accident.

She graduated from Tri-Cities Performing Arts High School in East Point, Georgia, a suburb of Atlanta. She made her first appearance on television when she was 15 years old on BET’s “Teen Summit.”

In high school, she co-founded Xscape with Tamika, LaTocha, and Tameka “Tiny Cottle” Scott. The quartet was contracted to Jermaine Dupri’s So So Def Recordings label. In 1994, Kandi earned her high school diploma.

Early Career

Kandi was a senior in high school when Xscape’s debut album, “Hummin’ Comin’ at ‘Cha,” was released in the fall of 1993. It generated two top 10 songs and peaked at number three on the R&B charts. 1995 saw the release of “Off the Hook,” Xscape’s second album. “Traces of My Lipstick,” the third and final album by the group, was released in 1998. LaTocha Scott quit the group after its third album to focus on a solo career.

The group reunited soon after and appeared on the soundtracks for “Hardball” and “Big Momma’s House” shortly after. After that, Xscape took another break until 2005.

Burruss is a popular songwriter as well. She also wrote the popular songs “No Scrubs” by TLC, “Bug a Boo,” “Bills, Bills, Bills,” and “The Writings on the Wall” by Destiny’s Child. In addition, she has written songs for numerous other performers, including Alicia Keys, Pink, Usher, Whitney Houston, and Mariah Carey.

Hey Kandi and Cheatin on me

In 2000, Kandi Burruss released “Hey Kandi,” her debut album as a solo artist. The singles “Don’t Think I’m Not” and “Cheatin on me” were taken from the album.

In 2010, she issued her second album, “Kandi Koated.” Kandi is the CEO of Kandi Koated Entertainment as well as the founder of her own record label.
