On October 15, 1981, in Oakland, California, Keyshia Cole was born as Keyshia Myeshia Johnson. Francine Lons and boxing coach Virgil Hunter are her biological parents. Keyshia didn’t meet Hunter or learn who her father was until she was 34 years old in 2016.

According to reports, Francine gave birth to six children, each of them had a different father.At the age of two, Keyshia’s family adopted her by Leon and Yvonne Cole, friends of the family. Cole and her brother Sean met MC Hammer when they were 12 years old and collaborated on music.

Tupac Shakur and Keyshia later became friends, and in 1996, he requested her to work with him on a project. Brutally, Tupac was tragically killed that night, so Keyshia never had the chance. Cole began working with the East Oakland Youth Development Center when she was 16 years old. Debut Album

Cole’s first song was “Never,” which was taken from the “Barbershop 2: Back in Business” soundtrack in 2004. It was then included on her self-titled first album, which was made available on June 21, 2005. The singles “I Changed My Mind,” “(I Just Want It) To Be Over,” “I Should Have Cheated,” and “Love” were all on the album, which peaked at number two on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums list and number six on the “Billboard” 200. Another Platinum hit, “Let It Go” (containing Lil’ Kim and Missy Elliott), was released in 2007 after the Platinum single “Love” (with Lil’ Kim and Missy Elliott).

Second and Other Albums

The singles “Let It Go,” “I Remember,” and “Heaven Sent” all reached the top spot on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart upon the release of Keyshia’s second album, “Just like You,” in September 2007 on Geffen Records. Tupac made a posthumous appearance on the song “Playa Cardz Right” from Cole’s third album, “A Different Me,” which was released in 2008. “Trust” was also a collaboration between Monica and Cole.

In 2009, Keyshia started her first headline tour called the “A Different Me Tour,” and she was featured on the pages of the magazines Vibe, Sister 2 Sister, WordUp!, and King. In December 2010, Cole released the album “Calling All Hearts,” which included Nicki Minaj on the album’s lead hit, “I Ain’t Thru.”

“Woman to Woman,” Keyshia’s fifth album, debuted at #2 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums list when it was released in November 2012. The single “Enough of No Love,” a joint effort with Lil Wayne, was included on the album.

Her follow-up, “Point of No Return,” debuted at the top of the R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart in 2014, and in 2017, Sony’s Epic Records issued her seventh album, “11:11 Reset.” It was stated in late 2020 that Cole and Ashanti will engage in a Verzuz battle on December 12th, but it was moved to January 21st after Ashanti was diagnosed with COVID-19.

Cole’s track “I Don’t Wanna Be in Love,” which she debuted during her Verzuz duel, was released in February 2021. Keyshia has contributed vocals to a number of songs outside her own, including “Impossible” by Kanye West (2006), “Last Night” by Diddy (2007), “Game’s Pain” by The Game (2008), and “Legendary” by DJ Khaled (2011).
