Following the outrage against Balenciaga, Kim Kardashian is speaking out.
On Angie Martinez’s “IRL” show Wednesday, Kim Kardashian the reality star, 42, opened up on everything from co-parenting with Kanye West to what her staff wears. One of the heated subjects was the current Balenciaga debacle following their divisive ad campaign.
“With the Balenciaga thing… everyone was like, ‘Why aren’t you speaking out? Why aren’t you speaking out?’” Kardashian spoke to the podcaster. “And I’m like, ‘Wait. I’m not in this campaign. I don’t know what’s happening. Let me take a minute to like, research this.’”
The commercials, which showed young children cradling teddy bears while dressed in BDSM-inspired clothes, provoked a significant outcry on social media, and many people turned against the founder of Skims for his tardiness in speaking out.
The longtime collaborator with Balenciaga, the “Kardashians” actress, claimed she “completely spoke out” after “she saw what everyone was seeing on the internet and the reality of the situation.”
The mother of four tweeted at the time that she had held off on making a public comment because she wanted “an opportunity to speak to their team to understand for myself how this could have happened.”
I have been quiet for the past few days, not because I haven’t been disgusted and outraged by the recent Balenciaga campaigns, but because I wanted an opportunity to speak to their team to understand for myself how this could have happened.

According to Kardashian, “any attempts to normalize child abuse of any type should have no place in our society — period,” adding that she was “shaken by the disturbing images.”
“But because I didn’t say, ‘F—k you, Balenciaga. That’s it,’ people got mad at that,” she told Martinez. “So they’re mad if I don’t speak out. They’re mad if I do speak out, and if I don’t cancel.”

Adding that “I couldn’t have been more clear on, this is horrifying, this is disturbing,” Kardashian shared, “unless they heard what they wanted to hear it’s like f—k you, you’re canceled.”
No matter what, you can’t win, the fashion and cosmetics mogul stated, adding that she never reads social media comments. But I’ll be the same.
Kardashian has been a literal walking billboard for the now-controversial brand (and starred in their official ad campaigns as well), whether it was the caution tape-covered bodysuit she wore earlier this year or the helmeted Balenciaga look that had her compared to an alien. However, recently, she’s ditched their designer clothes and reportedly turned down a future campaign.

And because she described herself as “cool” both mentally and emotionally. Kardashian said she tends to take criticism of her family and public opinion in stride.
“I’m like a robot. Like, half robot,” she joked.
