In Point Pleasant, New Jersey, Kirsten Caroline Dunst was born on April 30th, 1982. While her father held a senior position with the manufacturing firm Siemens, her mother was a flight attendant and an artist. Originally from Sweden and Germany, Dunst also has a younger brother, Christian Dunst, who was born in 1987.

Further, Dunst attended Ranney School in Tinton Falls while residing in Brick Township, New Jersey, up until the age of eleven.

She moved to Los Angeles with her mother and brother in 1993, after her parents’ divorce. While still a student at Notre Dame High School, she began acting, and she continued doing so after she graduated in 2000.

Spider-Man

The most financially lucrative movie of Dunst’s career to date was Spider-Man, which she appeared in alongside Tobey Maguire in 2002.

She portrayed Mary Jane Watson, Peter Parker’s love interest and best friend. Both critically and financially successful, Spider-Man made $114 million in its first weekend in North America and $822 million globally.

Dunst returned to her role as Mary Jane Watson in Spider-Man 2 in 2004 thanks to the success of the first Spider-Man. The movie was a critical and financial triumph, breaking North American box office records on its opening weekend.

She sang two songs as Mary Jane Watson in Spider-Man 3, one as a Broadway performer and the other as a jazz club singing waitress. Dunst lip-synced the songs while filming and had them previously recorded.

Additionally, she had cameos in the videos for the songs “I Knew I Loved You” by Savage Garden, “Make Some Noise” by the Beastie Boys, and “We All Go Back to Where We Belong” by R.E.M. She also sang two songs, “This Old Machine” and “Summer Day,” on Jason Schwartzman’s 2007 solo album Nighttime. Dunst declared in 2007 that she had no plans to release any albums, stating, “It was effective when Barbra Streisand performed it, but I feel like it’s a little cheesy now. Also, in the Takashi Murakami and McG-directed short Akihabara Majokko Princess, Dunst played the mystical princess Majokko and sang a cover of The Vapors’ 1980 song “Turning Japanese.”
