Kostas Antetokounmpo is a Greek professional Basketball player, who played NBA for the Dallas Mavericks as their power forward. He is more famous as the younger NBA superstar, Giannis Antetokounmpo, nicknamed “Greek Freak”.

Talking about his early life, Kostas Antetokounmpo was born Konstantinos Ndubuisi Antetokounmpo on November 20, 1997, in Athens, Greece. Besides this, Kostas holds Greek nationality and comes from a black ethnic background.

Furthermore, Kostas is the son of his late father, Charles Antetokounmpo, who was a former Nigerian soccer player, and his mother Veronica Antetokounmpo is a former Nigerian high jumper.

Sadly on September 29, 2017, his father, Charles Antetokounmpo at the age of 53 years old died of a heart attack.

Likewise, Kostas’s parents are from different Nigerian ethnic backgrounds as his father, Charles was of Yoruba origin, and his mother, Veronica is from the Igbo community.

Moreover, Kostas grew up in the Athens neighborhood of Sepolia with four brothers named Francis Antetokounmpo, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Alex Antetokounmpo, and Thanasis Antetokounmpo. Whereas, Francis Antetokounmpo is the oldest brother while he is the youngest one among the other siblings.

Regarding his academic background, Kostas joined the Dominican High School, a Catholic school in Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin, where he played for the high school basketball team.

After high school, he enrolled at the University of Dayton, which is also a Catholic research university in Dayton, Ohio.

Career and Professional Life

Moving onto his professional career, Kostas began his career by being drafted in the 2018 NBA Draft by the Philadelphia 76ers and later on traded to Dallas Mavericks.

Furthermore, he signed a two-way contract on 13 July, and through this, he was divided between the Mavericks and Texas Legends of the NBA G League.

Prior to this, Kostas played with the junior national team of Greek. Further, he played in FIBA EuropeUnder-20 Championship Division B in the year 2016 and won the Bronze medal.

Moreover in his career, he debuted in NBA on March 20, 2019, as an opponent of the Portland Trail Blazers, but his team lost the match. On July 19, 2019, he was released by the Mavericks. However, on November 26, 2020, he re-signed the two-way contract with the Lakers.

In July 2021, Kostas had signed up a contract with LDLC ASVEL of the French Betclic Élite and the Euroleague.

On the other hand, his brothers were all famous NBA players Giannis, Alex, and Thanasis. Recently in 2021, his two brothers, Thanasis and Giannis Antetokounmpo as a teammate won the 2021 NBA Championship with the Milwaukee Bucks.
