Kristaps Porziis is a Latvian professional basketball player for the National Basketball Association’s Washington Wizards. He is one of the NBA’s tallest active players and plays both power forward and center.

Early Life

Kristaps Porzingis began playing basketball at the age of six, following in the footsteps of his parents. His older brother, Janis, a professional soccer player in Europe, would accompany him to off-season training sessions when he was 12 years old.

Until the age of 15, he played in youth leagues for BK Liepjas Lauvas, the most well-known team in his hometown of Liepaja. A Latvian agency sent a video of him to teams in Spain and Italy around this time.

Baloncesto Sevilla, a club with a professional team in Spain’s Liga ACB, contacted Porziis in 2010 for a tryout in an attempt to attract international talent for its youth squads.

Who are Kristaps Porziis Family?

Kristaps is the son of basketball parents. Tlis, his father, was a semi-professional wrestler before becoming a bus driver.

Similarly, his mother, Ingrda, used to play for Latvia’s young national basketball team.

Furthermore, he spent over a decade playing European professional club basketball in a variety of national leagues, including the Italian League.

Amateur Years

Kristaps made his debut for the young team against a Barcelona team on January 4, 2012, scoring 12 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.

Alexander Zhigulin, the opposing team’s captain, would later enter and then withdraw from the 2015 NBA draft.

Sevilla, on the other hand, was defeated by a score of 56-75. This game was part of the Ciutat de L’Hospitalet competition, which took place prior to the Nike International Junior Tournament (NIJT).

On January 5, he set a personal best with 16 points on the Spars Sarajevo young squad, helping Sevilla to an 8-point victory over their opponents.

In March 2019, it was revealed that a woman accused Kristaps of raping her at the Sky building in February 2018, just hours after he tore his ACL.

The woman waited more than a year to come forward, according to authorities, because she discussed receiving a $68,000 payment from Porziis in exchange for remaining silent.
