The National Hockey League’s backup captain for the Edmonton Oilers is  Leon Tim Draisaitl, a native of Germany. Draisaitl spent his formative hockey years in Germany before being selected by the Prince Albert Raiders.

Leon Draisaitl | Early Life, Family, and Ethnicity

Leon was born to Peter and Sandra Draisaitl in Cologne, Germany, on October 27, 1995.

He has grown alongside his younger sister Kim Drasaitl. He holds German nationality and is of German ancestry.

Leon grew up playing hockey in Germany. Sadly, he hasn’t yet revealed his academic background. We are deprived of learning about his high school and college because of this.

In addition, Hannibal Weitzman, Kolner’s goalie, is a friend from his youth. From the age of five or six, they played hockey together.

The goalie guy and Leon are best friends, and they even go on a quick getaway together.

Leon experienced everything as a little child. He engaged in tennis, ping-pong, golf, and soccer. But in the end, he would find hockey to be his favorite sport.

Leon Draisaitl’s father, Peter Draisaitl, once competed for Germany. He previously competed in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL).

His father has also played 146 times in total for West Germany and Germany.

Leon Drasaitl | Early Career

Leon played both with and against the U-16 Kölner Haie when he was 12 years old. As the team’s coach, his father continued to be in charge.

Leon also competed for the Jungadler Mannheim U18 team in the German Development League (DNL).

After winning the DNL Championship, he was named DNL Player of the Year. He frequently skated with the German second-division team Ravensburg Tower Stars while he was an adolescent.

The team also included Ben Thomson, a Coaldale Copperhead, and once more his father served as the coach.

His father believes that by entering the field early with a professional squad, it may be possible to become familiar with the locker room rituals.

Playing Career

After that, Leon took a big step when he signed with the Western Hockey League’s Prince Albert Raiders at the age of seventeen.

Additionally, despite only participating in 19 games and scoring 28 points, he was given the MVP award. As the Memorial Cup MVP in 2015, Leon was given the Stafford Smythe Trophy.

The 2015 Memorial Cup, however, was not open to the Rockets.

Leon Drasaitl | Professional Career

Leon achieved his goal by scoring a respectable 105 points with the Raiders and contributing a powerful wide game for both the German national U-20 team and the senior squad.

In the 2014 NHL Draft, the Edmonton Oilers selected him as the third overall choice. But Leon, who entered the NHL at a young age, showed maturity beyond his years.

He changed into a guy right away. His father advised him to develop into a man as quickly as possible.

Leon formally modified his three-year, entry-level contract with Edmonton on October 9, 2014.

Leon also made history for the Oilers by being the first player since 1990 to have six straight games with multiple points.

He also became the second-youngest Oilers player to score a hat trick in the Stanley Cup playoffs.

More is on the way. Only five Oilers have ever scored as many goals in a season as Leon did with 50. He became the ninth Oiler in NHL history to score at least 100 points in a single season.

International Career

To depend on his experience playing internationally, Leon competed for the German Junior Team at the World Championships. He didn’t stop there; he was appointed captain for the following game.

But he was stripped of a round-robin victory over the United States and given a one-game suspension.
