Mari and Naomi did not begin playing tennis as a hobby, despite popular belief. Leonard Francois, their father, introduced them to tennis and taught them how to play.

When you consider that Francois has never played tennis or coached anyone before, it’s rather amusing. When he saw the Williams sisters dominate the French Open on an odd night in 1999, the idea came to him.

Seeing the deed encouraged him to make his children almost undefeated like the Williams sisters.

He had little experience with competitive sports, however. As a result, he went to the Williams sisters, a place he knew well.

Francois started tutoring his two young girls with the hopes of becoming the next Williams sisters in tennis. Similarly, his entire family shifted to New York in 2001, and his plan began to take shape.

Leonard’s family relocated to Florida after teaching his children the fundamentals so that they may have better prospects. And, fortunately, his foresight and perseverance were rewarded in the end.
