Early Life, Family & Education

Luke Douglas Kennard, better known by his stage name Luke Kennard, was born in Middletown, Ohio, on June 24, 1996. He is the second child of Mark Kennard and Jennifer Kennard, both natives of Ohio.

The player has a strong bond with his parents. They were the ones who initially motivated him to play basketball and engage in his favorite activities.

Luke was helped by his father, Mark, in particular, in his desire to pursue a career in sports. During his time in high school and college, Mark played basketball. He once served as the point guard for Georgetown College and the Franklin School.

Luke took his wise father’s counsel, and as a result, he significantly improved as a basketball player. He was equally good at football and baseball but ultimately decided on basketball.

High School Career

Luke Kennard attended the Franklin School, where he played basketball for his high school team when he was younger. He had sufficient practice at home, so he was already quite adept.

Similar to this, he committed himself to football for his high school team. He once played quarterback. He had to devote time to two different games, but he never let up.

Luke won the Gatorade Basketball Player of the Year (Ohio) award twice in his junior and senior years as a result of his continued improvement. In addition, he was pursued by numerous colleges who wanted to add him to their basketball roster.

However, even though Luke was still in his junior season, he had already made the decision to play for the Duke Blue Devils in college.

Professional Career

As the 12th pick in the first round of the 2017 NBA draft, the Detroit Pistons selected Kennard. On October 20, 2017, he then played in his first NBA game against the Washington Wizards.

Despite missing a few games due to a knee injury, he had a successful rookie season with the Detroit Pistons. He quickly recovered, though, and he played with his team in the remaining games of that season.

Luke played in over 70 games, averaging 7.6 points and 2.4 rebounds each contest. He received a brief assignment for the Grand Rapids Drive, a Denver Nuggets affiliate team, in the interim from the team.

Luke remained with the Pistons for two additional NBA seasons before joining the Los Angeles Clippers in 2020. In the following two seasons, he played one NBA playoff series with them and significantly improved upon his performance from his rookie year.

On November 19, the team finally dealt him to the Los Angeles Clippers. He eventually became a part of his new team, but it took some time. In his first season with the Clippers, he could only manage an 8.3-point and 2.7 rebound average.

He has played for the US in international competitions in addition to league games. The 2014 FIBA Americas Under-18 Championship was won by him.
