He was born on 30th November 1990 in Tønsberg, Norway to his father, Henrik Albert Carlsen, and his mother Sigrun Øen.

He defeated former world champion, Vladimir Kramnik. After that, FIDE announced that Carlsen was the top player in the world in January 2010. Magnus Carlsen competed with world chess champion Viswanathan Anand in the World Chess Championship in Chennai, India in 2013.
Meanwhile, Carlsen won the championship 6½–3½ by winning games five, six, and nine and drawing the remainder.
After that, he became the new world chess champion, the second-youngest player (after Kasparov) to win the world title.
