Camby’s efforts ultimately paid off, as, during the 2006–07 NBA season, he received the Defensive Player of the Year award. It was Camby’s very first accolade in his field.

He was also given the actual trophy by NBA commissioner David Stern prior to the Nuggets’ first home playoff game of the 2006–07 campaign.

Camby established himself as one of the top defensive centers in the NBA during the 2007–2008 season.

He is the fourth player since 1990 to record at least 20 points, 20 rebounds, six assists, and six blocks in a single contest.

Camby is just the third player to have at least 24 rebounds and 11 blocks in a single game since blocked shots were made an official NBA stat in 1973-74.

In a historic 168-116 victory on March 16, 2008, he notched his second triple-double of the 2007–08 NBA season, finishing with 13 points, 15 rebounds, and 10 assists.

On July 15, 2008, Camby was traded to the Los Angeles Clippers for the chance to exchange two second-round draft picks for the 2010 NBA draft.

He began the Los Angeles Clippers 2008–2009 NBA season as a power forward before switching to the starting center position.

On December 17, 2008, Camby had a career-high 27 rebounds, 19 points, two assists, four blocks, two steals, and two assists.
