At the 2014 Winter Olympics finals, where the USA and Canada were vying for the gold medal, they faced off against one another while they were dating. Canada ultimately prevailed in the match and earned the Olympic gold medal.

In 2015, Apps ended her professional career. After that, she began working as a member of Katie King’s coaching staff for the Boston College Eagles women’s ice hockey team.
