Michael Phelps is an American former ambitious swimmer. Phelps is one of the most thriving Olympians of all time who holds a total of 28 medals.

And Phelps competed in his first Olympics at the age of 15, as part of the U.S. men’s swim team.

He is the first American male swimmer to own a spot on five Olympic teams. Although, he also made history by winning gold in Olympic swimming history at the age of 28.

Early Life And Family

Phelps celebrates his birthday on the 30th of June 1985, in Baltimore, Maryland. Michael was born to his father Fred Phelps and mother Debbie Phelps.

He completed his studies at Dumbarton Middle School and Towson High School. Michael is the youngest among three children.

Debbie Phelps is a middle school principal, and Michael Fred Phelps is a retired Maryland State Trooper are his father and mother. At the very young age of 9, their parents got separated. However, his father remarried in 2000.

Later on, Phelps revealed that the divorce had a severe negative impact on him and his siblings. Likewise, his relationship with his father was distant for a few years after the divorce.

Earlier, Phelps seemed interested in swimming at the age of 7, partly because of the influence of his sisters. By the age of 10, he held a national record (in the 100-meter butterfly)and began to train at the North Baltimore Aquatic Club.

More age group records followed, and as of August 21, 2018, Phelps still held 11 age group records, eight in long courses, and three in short courses.

University of Michigan

Michael Phelps accompanied his coach ( Bowman) to the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Bob Bowman used to lead the swim team of Wolverine.

He (Bowman) used to make them study sports retailing and management. Meanwhile, Michael carried on achieving world records at the 2006 Pan Pacific Championships.

He also won the 2007 World Championships in Melbourne, Australia.

Phelps also holds the records for Olympic gold medals 23 times, and Olympic gold medals in individual events 13 times.

Likewise, he also holds records for Olympic medals in individual events for 16th times. In the 2008 Beijing Games, he broke fellow American swimmer Mark Splitz’s 1972 record of seven first-place finishes at any single Olympic Games by winning 8 golds.

In 2004, Summer Olympics, Phelps already tied the record of 8 medals of any color in a single Game by winning 6 gold and 2 bronze medals.

At the 2012 Summer Olympics, Phelps won 4 gold and 2 silver medals, and at the 2016 Summer Olympics, he won 5 gold medals and a silver.

As a result, this made him the most successful athlete in the Games for the fourth Olympics in a row.
