In the state of New Jersey’s New Brunswick, Mohamed Sanu Sr. was born. His parents are Aminata Koroma and Samuel Sanu.

The football player also hails from a Muslim household; his parents are from Sierra Leone, a nation on the southwest coast of West Africa.

Professional Life and Career

South Brunswick High School was where Sanu played high school football. He gained notoriety for his participation in a game versus Edison High School.

Due to age restrictions imposed by the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association, he was unable to participate in games during his senior season.

Gregory Edward Schiano, a former Buccaneers head coach, also served as his coach. Under Schiano’s direction, the athlete was able to advance several of his or her skills.

In addition, Mohamed won the Most Valuable Player award at the 2009 St. Petersburg Bowl. He was also a unanimous preseason All-Big East selection the season after.

Many Big East records were broken by the wide receiver, including one that Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald had previously held.

He only played for the Rutgers Scarlet Knights for three seasons before declaring for the 2012 NFL Draft.

NFL Career

Sanu was chosen by the Bengals as the 83rd overall choice in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft.

Soon after, he was presented with a $2.71 million, four-year deal, along with a $563,252 signing bonus.

The football player became the Bengals’ first wide receiver to throw a touchdown pass in a game against the Washington Redskins by completing a 73-yard touchdown pass.

The wide receiver’s rookie season was later cut short by surgery to fix a stress fracture. He helped Cincinnati finish the following season with an 11-5 record, first in the AFC North.

Mohamed mostly focused on the team’s offense throughout the 2014 NFL season.

Following that, he scored his first NFL rushing touchdown against the Browns during his final campaign with the Bengals.

Falcons of Atlanta

Sanu inked a five-year deal with the Falcons after spending four seasons playing for the Bengals.

He contributed to the Falcons winning the South Division of the National Football Conference in his first season with the group.

Additionally, he helped the group in the 2016–17 Super Bowl Finals matchup with the New England Patriots. Before falling to the Patriots, the player made two receptions.

The Atlanta Falcons traded Mohamed to the New England Patriots after he had a largely ordinary career with the organization in Atlanta.

San Francisco 49ers vs. New England Patriots

In a contest against the Cleveland Browns, the NFL player made his Patriots debut. Additionally, he had ten receptions in a contest against the Baltimore Ravens.

The wide receiver, however, was placed on the list of activities but physically unable-to-perform players in August 2020. A month later, the Patriots released him as a result.

His contract with the 49ers was signed after he was released, but he was cut loose less than a month later.

Re-signing with the 49ers and the Detroit Lions

Sanu later joined the Detroit Lions and was initially a member of their practice squad after being released by the San Francisco 49ers.

He was soon added to the active roster and participated with the Lions in the 2020 NFL season. A new deal with the 49ers was also renewed by Mohamed in March 2021.

He was only able to participate in eight games before suffering a knee injury and going on the injured reserve.
