Kim Kardashian an American media personality, and reality star. She once again dominated the fashion spotlight at New York’s Met Gala when she appeared in that dress, the actual sheer, beaded Jean Louis illusion gown that Marilyn Monroe famously wore on May 19, 1962.
Marilyn Monroe wore that dress when she sang “Happy Birthday” to President John F. Kennedy at Madison Square Garden.
Kim opted to make history and does have a knack for breaking the internet once again.
Kim arrived fashionably late in a sparkling skin-tight gown adorned with over 60,000 hand-sewn crystals.
The dress was created 60 years ago by Hollywood designer Jean Louis, with the help of Bob Mackie.
The shimmering dress is one of the most iconic looks worn by Monroe.

It was loaned to Kardashian by the Ripley’s. It is a museum and events franchisee that purchased the gown for a record-breaking $4.8 million at a 2016 auction which sets a new record.
After Monroe’s seductive performance for the president’s 45th birthday, Kennedy said,
“I can now retire from politics after having had ‘Happy Birthday’ sung to me in such a sweet, wholesome way.

A part of Monroe’s dress is also that she had to be sewn into the figure-hugging gown. Therefore, couldn’t wear undergarments beneath it.
It was so tight, that she had trouble walking during her 1962 performance. Kardashian encountered similar difficulties on the red carpet where she was seen carefully shuffling up the stairs, with help from her boyfriend Pete Davidson.
According to the agreement with Ripley, No alterations were allowed to be made to the dress. In the event, Kim later changed into a replica for the rest of the event.

Kardashian lost 16 pounds in just three weeks to fit into the garment:
“It was such a challenge, it was like a role. I was determined to fit it. I don’t think they believed I was gonna do it, but I did it.”
Kim Kardashian went platinum blonde for the look, she always goes above and beyond for a look. The outlet also reports that she spent 14 hrs bleaching her hair.
While her look was met with cheers for the night and she received plenty of positive feedback, some social media users criticized Kardashian for glamourizing her weight loss.
This was also a topic she has previously drawn anger for in the past.
Some of them called her rapid change of weight “extremely unhealthy,” while some encouraged her to “think about the influence of what you say,” adding that discussing extreme weight loss is “harmful.”
Some people also added they felt her “message is so damaging to young girls watching.“
Speaking of this year’s gown worn by Kardashian, she tweeted that she was “honored” to be the first person to wear the dress since Monroe donned it decades ago, saying,
“I am forever grateful for this moment.”
