The majority of Nathaniel Thurmond’s 14-year NBA career was spent with the Golden State Warriors team. Thurmond was an American basketball player. He acted as a center and a power forward.

Early Life, Family, Education

Nate was born to parents Andrew Thurmond and Leala Thurmond in Akron, Ohio, on July 25, 1941. He grew up along with his brother, Ben Thurmond.

From an early age, Nate was very thin. He was of the black race and an American by birth.

He attended Central High School in Akron, Ohio, where he played basketball alongside NBA legend Gus Johnson.

To back up Jerry Lucas, an old adversary from high school, Ohio State granted Nate a scholarship.

However, he declined that offer since he did not want to serve as a backup. He chose Bowling Green to play college basketball instead.

In terms of painful rebounds, Nate was a serious candidate. He served as its president.

Professional Career

When he was selected in the 1963 NBA draft, Nate joined the Golden State Warriors to begin his NBA career.

In 1964, he was also eligible for the NBA All-Rookie Team.

In his second season, Nate became a highly charismatic starting center for the Warriors. As he once again established the record for rebounds in a quarter with 18 during his normal second season, we believe breaking rebounding records became his forte.

He was named the MVP for the 1966–1967 season in second place, behind Chamberlian.

Chicago Bulls

In place of Clifford Ray, Thurmond was sent to the Chicago Bulls in 1974. The Bull decided to hire him after realizing how much they needed a starting center with plenty of power.

He recorded 22 points, 14 rebounds, 13 assists, and 12 blocked shots in his first game for the Bulls against the Atlanta Hawks. He achieved a quadruple-double for the first time right then and there.

Retirement and Death

He returned to San Francisco after retiring, where Nate resided with his wife Marci and son Adam. He also used his hands-on experience to open Big Nate’s BBQ, a restaurant that was sold after 20 years.

The Chase Center, where the Golden State Warriors play, reportedly has a Big Nate’s BBQ kiosk with dishes honoring his NBA achievements, according to the sources.

The Warriors team also gave Nate the title of “Warriors Legend & Ambassador.”

The worst tragedy happened on July 16, 2016, when he passed away from leukemia and left behind enormous footprints in our hearts.

His 75th birthday was just nine days away. The Providence Baptist Church hosted the funeral ceremony.
