Canadian professional ice hockey player Nazem Kadri plays for the Calgary Flames of the National Hockey League. In the seventh round of the NHL Entry Draft in 2009, the Toronto Maple Leafs selected him.

Early Career

Nazem has worked hard to improve as a hockey player ever since he took his first step onto the ice at the age of two.

The London Jr. Knights of the AAA Pavilion League of the NHAO were where Kadri first played youth hockey.

The Canadian athlete then participated in the 2003 All-Ontario Peewee Championships in Markham, Ontario. Along with the 2005 Thunder Bay All-Ontario Championships.

Before transferring to the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) in 2006–07, Nazem was a crucial component of MHAO championship teams.

Kadri began playing more frequently after being selected by the Kitchener Rangers in the first round of the 2006 OHL Priority Selection, 18th overall.

In his 68 games over the course of the second season, Nazem amassed 25 goals and 40 assists.

He also supported the Rangers during the playoffs, helping them win the OHL championship and advance to the Memorial Cup final, where they lost to the Spokane Chiefs.

The OHL traded Nazem to the London Knights later in the 2007–2008 campaign in exchange for additional draft picks.

Later, he took part in 56 games, recording 25 goals and 53 assists. Sadly, he was forced to miss the majority of the season’s games, including the ADT Canada Russia Challenge, due to his broken jaw.

The Toronto Maple Leafs

After being chosen to take part in the OHL All-Star Classic, Kadri donned Western Conference gear the following season.

The following year, Nazem was once more dealt to the Toronto Maple Leafs. He agreed to a three-year entry-level contract with them on July 6, 2009.

After being dismissed from the team, Nazem rejoined Team OHL and was selected to participate in the 2009 Subway Super Series.

Not to mention that he took part in the OHL All-Star Game twice. He was also named Player of the Week by the CHL for his nine points in just three games.

After scoring 26 points in just ten games in April 2010, Kadri was named the League’s Player of the Month.

Professional Hockey Career

Kadri has been playing ever since he learned to walk, and the Toronto Maple Leafs are where he has now made his NHL debut.

During the 2009–10 preseason, Nazim played in six games, recording three goals and two assists.

The young Kadri was returned to the Knights after falling short of head coach Ron Wilson’s expectations.

However, due to the injuries to forwards Christian Hanson and Fredrik Sjostrom in 2010, Nazim was called up to the Leafs.

Kadri made his NHL debut against the San Jose Sharks on February 8, 2010.

Despite the fact that he was most likely to stay with the Leafs, Wilson and the general manager at the time, Brian Burke, suggested otherwise.

Two days later, Kadri scored multiple goals in his first game against the New Jersey Devils. Nazim was chosen for the AHL All-Star Game after he scored his first NHL goal against the Boston Bruins.

Kadri then started working out with former NHL player and Toronto Maple Leaf Gary Roberts to hone his skating abilities and play with more aggression.

In a game against the Montreal Canadiens during the 2012–13 NHL season, Kadri started for the Leafs.

After that, as young Nazem continued to advance and score points along the way, things started to look better for him.

Kadri even scored his first hat-trick of the year against the New York Islanders.

Injury

Recently, Nazem Kadri had a severe injury in his thumb and underwent surgery. His thumb was hit by Edmonton Oilers left wing, Evander Kane, during Western Conference Final on Saturday’s Game 3.

Although he was not ruled out from the game, it is unlikely that he will be seen playing in the 2022-23 campaign.
