In 1991, Nomar Garciaparra received his diploma from Bellflower’s Saint John Bosco High School. He was even selected by the Milwaukee Brewers in the fifth round of the draft. However, he never agreed to the terms.

Numerous institutions offered Nomar baseball and football scholarships. He played baseball at the Georgia Institute of Technology after selecting it out of all the colleges. Nevertheless, he stopped going to school and left college.

While a student at Georgia Institute, Garciaparra was chosen by the Milwaukee Brewers in the fifth round. He hit his first career home run while competing for the Sarasota Red Sox during the NCCA season (.295).

Nomar did, however, only play in 28 games because he joined in the middle of the campaign.

Moreover, he also excelled to the point where he received a 1995 invitation to join the Double-A Trenton Thunder. He allowed 8 home runs in 125 games.

In 1996, he advanced to the Triple-A level of minor league baseball. He hit 16 home runs there, leading to a late-season Major League proposal.


Nomar Garciaparra made his MLB debut on August 31, 1996. He made his debut against Oakland as a defensive sub. Amazingly, he gave up 3 hits on September 1st versus Oakland, which represented a turning point in his career.
