The National Basketball Association (NBA) League features Norman Powell as a professional basketball player. Ever since his debut in 2015, he has already played for several NBA teams.
Norman Powell| Early Life, Family & Education
On May 25, 1993, in San Diego, California, Norman Powell was born to his parents, Norman Powell Sr. and Sharon Powell.
When Norman was still a young child, his father abandoned his family. He and his two sisters were raised by Sharon, a single mother. As she fought to make ends meet, they had to undergo numerous hardships.
Sharon’s brother, Raymond Edwards, did offer them some assistance, though.
Powell attended Abraham Lincoln High School while growing up in San Diego. If not for his uncle’s passion for basketball, he would not have been a player.
Basketball was Raymond’s favorite sport, and he frequently accompanied his young nephew to games.

Birth of “Big Shot Powell”
Sharon also did not interfere with her son’s free time basketball activities. However, as someone engaged in social work and youth improvement initiatives, she also valued academic knowledge.
Because of this, Sharon constantly encouraged him to prioritize his schoolwork in addition to basketball.
Norman as a result began to excel for his team in inter-school competitions and became one of the region’s top shooters.
His uncle gave him the moniker “Big Shot Powell” because of his amazing shooting abilities. Sadly, Raymond died before he could witness Powell’s high school graduation.
Norman chose to continue his education and pursue a career in collegiate basketball by enrolling at the University of California after high school. At the moment, he has a history bachelor’s degree.
Norman Powell| Career
High School Career
Norman participated in athletic competitions until 2011. He made quick gains in his first year and soon displayed his potential.
In 2009 and 2010, Norman successfully guided his group to CIF San Diego 2A crowns. Additionally, in 2010 they captured the CIF Division II Boys’ State Championship.
Norman had outstanding statistics at the end of the 2009–10 campaign. In his junior year, he scored 19.7 points and grabbed 4.9 rebounds per game.
Due to his exceptional play, he was named to the First Team All-State and the MVP of the Western League.
Norman’s senior year saw him maintain his excellent work ethic. He had a 20.4-point, 3.8 rebounds, and 2.4 steals per game average in his senior year. His squad finished No. 15 in the nation as a result.
In addition, ESPN.com ranked him as the 52nd-best player in 2011 and a four-star recruit.
College Career
After high school, Norman began his collegiate career at UCLA. The squad trusted him with the increased playing time even as a freshman because he had previously achieved such high school prominence.
He participated in every UCLA game that year. In 33 games during the 2011–12 season, he averaged 4.6 points and 2.2 rebounds. However, his first-year statistics fell short of expectations.
He played 35 matches in his second year at UCLA, although the coach offered him substantially less playing time. Powell started the season as a starter but subsequently sat mostly on the bench.
But in the end, he backed down and participated in the senior campaign. In the 2014–15 season, he participated in 36 games and scored 16.4 points on average.
With multiple accolades, Norman completed his collegiate career. He also emerged as one of the top prospects for the next NBA draft in 2015.
Norman Powell| Professional Career
Toronto Raptors
After being selected by the Milwaukee Bucks in the 2015 NBA Draft, Norman Powell joined the league. He was then moved to the Toronto Raptors though, and on July 15, 2015, he signed a contract with them.
After James Johnson and Carroll had to take a break due to injuries, Norman made his NBA debut on February 2, 2016.
Later on, he began to play well, and toward the conclusion of his first season, his stats mysteriously improved. He averaged 5.6 points and 7.8 rebounds per game for the whole season.
Norman had few chances to play for the Raptors when his second NBA season began. He would still give it his all and produce strong results.
On October 8, 2017, Norman agreed to a brand-new, four-year deal with the Raptors. Due to the club’s abundance of great players, he participated in very few games this season.
Sadly, on November 5, 2018, he suffered a shoulder injury that required extensive recuperation. He finally took the court against the Indiana Pacers after missing 21 games.
He participated in about 60 games in the 2018–19 season and, while playing with the Raptors this year, earned his first NBA championship ring.
Powell remained a member of the Raptors for the 2019–20 campaign, playing poorly in the opening games. On January 31, 2020, he shattered his palm, which only made his pain worse.
Before being moved to the Blazers, he played for the Raptors for the entire 2019–20 season and a few games of the 2020–21 season.
Portland Trail Blazers
He was acquired by the Portland Trail Blazers on March 25, 2021. On March 27, 2021, Norman made his Blazers debut. He scored 22 points for his side in just 36 minutes against the Orlando Magic.
Unexpected Trade to the Clippers
On February 4, 2022, the Blazers abruptly dealt with Los Angeles Clippers Norman Powell. Particularly for Powell, the choice was unexpected.
He had agreed to a huge five-year, $90 million contract with the Blazers in August of the previous year. The player told the media that the timing of trades was unusual.
Even more recently, he had purchased a home in Portland with plans to move there. The player has, however, already moved on. On February 6, he played in his first game for the Los Angeles Clippers, recording a remarkable 28 points and 4 assists against the Milwaukee Bucks.
Additionally, he has stated that he will blend in seamlessly with his new colleagues and perform better for his new squad in subsequent games.
