Nigerian parents gave birth to Umenyiora in London’s Golders Green. Osi, an Igbo native of Ogbunike town in Nigeria’s Anambra State Local Government Area of Oyi, is descended from the Igbo people.

Unexpectedly, Osi proposed to Leila Lopes, Miss Universe 2011, in February 2013. On May 29, 2015, they were married in Luanda, Angola, the bride’s country; he can speak a little Portuguese.
