American college basketball player Paige Madison Bueckers plays for the University of Connecticut Huskies in the Big East Conference. As the top recruit in her class at Hopkins High School in Minnetonka, Minnesota, Bueckers won the title of national high school player of the year.

Early Life and Education

On October 20, 2001, Paige Bueckers was born in Edina, Minnesota, in the United States to her parents Bob Bueckers and Amy Fuller Dettbarn.

Her passion for gaming, however, began at a young age. She and her father watched the Los Angeles Lakers game when she was seven.

When Bueckers was three years old, her parents separated. Subsequently, her mother remarried and moved to Billings, Montana.

She has two brothers, Ryan and Drew, and a younger sister, Lauren, and is the oldest of her siblings.

Her father served as an inspiration for her to begin playing basketball. Until she entered the seventh grade, Bob, his father, served as Paige’s coach.

These players encouraged her to pursue a career as a professional basketball player. Paige was a star player for Hopkins High School’s junior varsity basketball team when she was only in the seventh grade.

High School and National Career

On November 25, 2016, Bueckers made her Hopkins High School freshman season debut against Osseo Senior High School, tallying 28 points, five steals, and four assists.

That year, she assumed a more significant role and emerged as one of the team’s top scorers and passers.

Since the award’s inception 34 years prior, when she was a sophomore, she was the first sophomore to take home the Star Tribune Metro Player of the Year trophy.

Bueckers made basketball magazine Slam history in January 2020 by becoming the first high school player who was a woman.

As a senior, Paige guided Hopkins to another undefeated campaign and 62 straight victories while winning the Star Tribune metro player of the year and Minnesota Gators player of the year awards twice.

She was recognized as the National Player of the Year by Gatorade, Morgan Wootten, and MaxPreps in the United States.
