Phillip Dennis Ivey Jr. is an American professional poker player who has won ten World Series of Poker bracelets, one World Poker Tour title, and nine World Poker Tour final tables. Many poker analysts and contemporaries see Ivey as the world’s top all-around player.

Phil Ivey | Early Life, Family, and Relationship

In 1977, Phillip Dennis Ivey Jr. was born. When he was a baby, his parents moved him to Roselle, New Jersey. As a teen, Ivey attended Old Bridge High School.

Ivey began polishing his poker abilities in the late 1990s by playing against employees at a telemarketing agency in New Brunswick, New Jersey.

In 2000, Ivey became the first person to beat Amarillo Slim heads-up at a WSOP final table. His victory over Amarillo Slim won him his first professional bracelet. He finished in the top 25 four times between the 2002 World Series of Poker and the 2009 World Series of Poker. In 2002, Ivey finished 23rd, then 10th in 2003, 20th in 2005, and 7th in 2009.

Later in 2006, Ivey competed in the inaugural European Poker Masters London All-Star Challenge. In November 2005, Ivey won the $1,000,000 first prize in the Monte Carlo Millions tournament.

Later in 2009, Ivey won his sixth career World Series of Poker bracelet in the $2,500 No-Limit 2-7 Draw Lowball Tournament, defeating 147 players in the event and 376 players in the Omaha Hi/Lo / 7 Card Stud Hi/Lo event.

At the 2010 World Series of Poker, Ivey received the most votes for the Tournament of Champions. Ivey is tied for second all-time in the World Series of Poker bracelets with Doyle Brunson and Johnny Chan.

Furthermore, at the age of 38, he is the youngest player in history to earn ten bracelets. He shattered Phil Hellmuth’s 42-year-old record with his tenth bracelet. Furthermore, no other player has won ten bracelets in less time than Ivey, who went only 14 years from his first to his tenth.

Making Money through Poker

On January 22, 2007, Ivey defeated Matusow, Tony G, Andy Bloch, Hellmuth, and Sam Farha in the $120,000 winner-take-all “Earphones Please” event on NBC’s Poker After Dark.

Later, on January 29, 2012, Ivey won the Aussie Millions A$250,000 High-roller event, defeating Patrik Antonius heads-up for a payout of A$2,000,000, putting him second in all-time career tournament earnings.

Later on February 10, 2014, Ivey won the 2014 Aussie Millions LK Boutique $250,000 Challenge for AU$ 4,000,000, the largest single cash of his career. He won the Aussie Millions $250,000 Challenge for the second time in February 2015.

In 2018, Ivey won a total of $26,250,000 in live tournaments. He has also won millions of dollars in cash and online games. WSOP amounts of cash accounted for more than $6,600,000 of his total earnings.
