Queen Elizabeth II cancels her appearance for the first time in over 50 years. Similarly, in a ceremony the Queen would normally attend, Buckingham Palace announced that Elizabeth will miss the occasion just one day before the May 10 State Opening of Parliament!

Similarly, Buckingham Palace said in a statement on Friday,

“After discussing the arrangements with the Royal Household, The Queen has asked The Prince of Wales to represent Her Majesty at the Commonwealth Service at Westminster Abbey on Monday.”

Also, according to the palace,

“The Queen will continue with other planned engagements, including in-person Audiences, in the week ahead.Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, will attend the service, alongside Prince William and Kate Middleton.”

Similarly, the palace added,

“The Queen’s Commonwealth Day message will be distributed in the usual way.”

Why did Queen Elizabeth cancel her appearance?

Likewise, the statement said,

“The Queen continues to experience episodic mobility problems, and in consultation with her doctors has reluctantly decided that she will not attend the State Opening of Parliament tomorrow.”

Moreover, the statement was referred to her eldest son Prince Charles and eldest grandson Prince William. Furthermore, it said,

“At Her Majesty’s request, and with the agreement of the relevant authorities, The Prince of Wales will read The Queen’s speech on Her Majesty’s behalf, with The Duke of Cambridge also in attendance.”

Has Queen Elizabeth II been diagnosed with Covid-19?

Queen Elizabeth II suffered from Covid-19 in February. Similarly, her son, Charles shared in March that his mother was doing better. Moreover, In April, she shared that the coronavirus had left her feeling very tired.

Likewise, Elizabeth said in a conversation with National Health Service workers,

“It does leave one very tired and exhausted, doesn’t it? This horrible pandemic. It’s not a nice result.”

Is she attending further events in the future?

Queen Elizabeth II and her majesty are not attending the State Opening of Parliament. However, she is still expected to show her presence for her annual Jubilee celebration in June.

Furthermore, a spokesperson for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stated to Page Six last week,

“The Queen and those members of the royal family who are currently undertaking official public duties on behalf of the Queen will make the official public appearance and photo op on the balcony of Buckingham Palace.”

Queen Elizabeth II has missed out on other events too in the past. Is this true?

Similarly, the British monarch has previously missed this event twice during her 70-year reign. Likewise, the first was in the year 1959 while Elizabeth was pregnant with Prince Andrew.

Moreover, the second was in the year 1963, before welcoming Prince Edward. In addition, over the past few months of her 96th birthday, she has also missed a few other public events because of health concerns.

Furthermore, on April 17, Buckingham Palace said that she will not attend the Easter Mattins Service at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle. On the other hand, Elizabeth also missed the Royal Maundy Service at St. George’s Chapel.

Currently, Queen Elizabeth has been busy maintaining her daily schedules of private engagements on top of that, she has virtual meetings, and phone calls to attend.
It seems like other royal members including Prince Charles and his wife, Camilla as well as Prince William and his wife, Duchess Kate have taken on the duties of making public appearances for now!
