Early Career

When he was just fourteen years old, Rey Mysterio began his professional wrestling debut in Mexico in 1989. From 1992 to 1995, he worked for Asistencia Asesora y Administración (Assistance, Assessment, and Administration), a Mexican organization.

World Championship Wrestling

Later, in 1995, he became a member of “Extreme Championship Wrestling.” The following year, he was acquired by “World Championship Wrestling.”

He faced Cruiserweight Champ Dean Malenko in his first match at the Great American Bash, which Malenko won.

Mysterio mostly fought high flyers like Ultimate Dragon, Juventud Guerrera, Billy Kidman, and his longtime rival, Psicosis, whom he defeated in ‘Bash at the Beach in July 1996.

Soon after, in July 1996, Rey Mysterio defeated Malenko to win his first Cruiserweight Championship.

He held the title for three months. During this time, he had to defend his title against many opponents, including Ultimate Dragon, Super Caló, and Malenko himself.

After losing to Malenko at the Halloween Havoc, Mysterio eventually lost the title. Later, in November 1996, he challenged Ultimate Dragon for the J-Crown Championship. He was, however, unsuccessful.

After defeating his opponent Guerrero in a match in 1997, Rey won the Cruiserweight Championship for the second time. However, he was defeated by Guerrero in November, and the latter reclaimed the title.

As a result, Rey Mysterio won his third Cruiserweight Championship in January 1998 after defeating Juventud in a fight.

Later that year, he and Billy Kidman formed a tag team to compete at the Latino World Order. Mysterio later fought Kidman for the Cruiserweight Championship, but he was unable to reclaim it.

Following his and his tag partner Konnan’s defeat in a ‘Hair vs. Mask match,” against Kevin Nash and Scott Hall in 1999, Mysterio was forced to remove his mask. He expressed his displeasure at being unmasked and stated that he only removed it because he had no other option.

In 2002, he made his WWE  debut wearing a new and improved mask. He later reformed his tag team after facing opponents such as Chavo Guerrero, Kurt Angle, and Big Show.

Later that year, he teamed up with Eddie Guerrero to win tag team titles. Guerrero, on the other hand, was secretly jealous of Rey because he had never been able to defeat him.

As a result, he turned on him during a match, and after abandoning him, he beat up Rey as well. This “jealousy and feuding” at WrestleMania was part of a storyline designed to pique the interest of the audience.

Due to his frustration, Guerrero also revealed a secret they had shared about Rey’s son Dominick during this time—this, too, was part of a storyline.

Guerrero was Dominick’s biological father, whom he had abandoned when Dominick was a baby. They had a ladder match for his custody, and Rey came out on top. Later on, Rey

In 2011, Mysterio participated in a WWE Championship match. As a result, Rey won his first WWE Championship. Later that day, John Cena defeated him for the title.

Later, in order to reclaim his title, he squared off against Alberto Del Rio, the new champion. But Mysterio came up short.

After ending his lengthy relationship with WWE in 2015, Asistencia Asesora y Administración re-signed him. He signed a contract with Lucha Underground in December 2015, and they are his current team.
