Ricky Dene Gervais is an English comedian, actor and writer. He co-wrote, co-created, and appeared in three British television comedies: The Office, Extras, and An Idiot Abroad. He also developed, wrote, and starred in Derek and After Life.

Ricky Gervais | Early life, Education, Family

Ricky Dene Gervais was born on June 25, 1961, in England. The youngest of four children, Ricky was raised by a French Canadian who had moved back to his place of origin.

Gervais attended University College London to earn a degree in philosophy after completing his secondary education. Consequently, in the university, Gervais first met Jane Fallon, and the two have been together ever since 1982.

Ricky’s father, Lawrence Raymond “Jerry” Gervais (1919-2002), a Franco-Ontarian of French Canadian and Iroquois heritage from Pain Court, Ontario, came to the UK while serving in the Second World War.

He worked as a worker and a hod carrier before he met Gervais’s English mother, Eva Sophia (née House; 1925-2000). Afterward, they met during a blackout, moved to Whitley in Reading, and got married after sixteen years.

How did Ricky Gervais start his Career?

In 1983, while in their final year of studies at University College London, Gervais and his best friend Bill Macrae established the new wave pop duo Seona Dancing. Two of their singles—”More to Lose” and “Bitter Heart”—were made accessible after they were signed to London Records.

After failing to become a music star, Ricky Gervais started his career in entertainment on the radio. While acting as the head of speech at XFM, he met Stephen Merchant, who he later employed as his assistant.

The first six episodes of The Office’s first season were broadcast in the UK in July and August 2001, albeit with little fanfare or attention. After The Office’s second season was a commercial and critical success, Radio Times named Gervais the most influential figure in TV comedy.

Golden Globes were awarded in 2004 for The Office and Gervais, respectively, for Best Television Series Musical or Comedy and Best Actor – Television Series Musical or Comedy.

Extras, a comedy starring Ricky Gervais as backdrop artist Andy Millman and Stephen Merchant, debuted on the BBC on July 21, 2005, and ran for twelve episodes.

Stand Up Comedy

Gervais began his stand-up comedy career in the late 1990s. He gave his first widely viewed performance at the Cafe Royal in 2001 as a part of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Eventually, Blackpool reported that all of the tickets were gone within 45 minutes of being on sale. Animals were seen by the Newsnight Review panel while it was showing at Bloomsbury, and they reviewed it in January 2003.

Science, Gervais’ fourth performance, opened an eleven-date tour in August 2009 at the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre in Glasgow.

In November 2009, he was the star attraction at Carnegie Hall’s sixth annual New York Comedy Festival. Gervais made known that Humanity would be the name of his future stand-up routine in 2013.

In response to the success of this book, he released More Flanimals in 2005 and Flanimals of the Deep in 2006. Additionally, in October 2007, the brand-new Flanimals book Flanimals: The Day of the Bletchling published.

These were essentially podcast transcripts of Xfm shows and contained Pilkington visuals.
