Hummel returned to the team as a sixth redshirted senior after an injury-plagued 2010–11 campaign in which he tore his ACL.

The Minnesota Timberwolves selected Hummel with the 58th overall choice in the 2012 NBA Draft.
He participated in the 2012 NBA Summer League on behalf of the Timberwolves. He subsequently took a one-year contract from the Spanish team Blu: sent Monbs.
During the 2013 NBA Summer League, Hummel resigned from the Minnesota Timberwolves.
