American former basketball player Roger Philip Mason Jr. played professionally. He served as the NBA Players Association’s deputy executive director in the past.

Childhood and Education

Roger Mason Jr. was born on September 10, 1980, to Roger Mason Sr. (the father) and Marsha Mason-Wonsley (mother).

His mother Marsha Mason-Worsley was a registered nurse, and his father Roger Sr. was an ophthalmologist. Both of his parents had college degrees and respectable incomes. Roger, therefore, had a wonderful upbringing.

Unfortunately, his father died when Mason was ten years old; this was the most tragic event in his life because he adored him dearly.

Before his father passed away, Mason was a wild and disobedient young boy. But after his father passed away, Mason Jr. made the decision to put his youth behind him and develop into a visionary with a strong sense of purpose so he could serve as an example for his three younger siblings.

He began concentrating on his education and career. The athlete made the decision to become a basketball player because he had always loved the sport.

His early education was at Grace Episcopal Day School. He then enrolled in Sidwell Friends School for high school, where he began playing basketball and also was recognized as the school’s freshman MVP.

After that, Mason changed schools and attended Our Lady of Good Counsel High School, where he played basketball during his sophomore, junior, and senior years.

Career

Roger received the season MVP award at Sidwell Friend School. Mason played at Our Lady of Good Counsel High School during his sophomore, junior, and senior years after transferring there.

Mason’s entry allowed Counsel to have their best basketball season ever, finishing with twenty-nine wins and a final ranking of nineteen on the USA Today Super 25 list.

Mason was additionally selected for the 1999 All-Metropolitan First Team by some of the top news websites, including The Washington Post, the All-Washington Catholic Athletic Conference (WCAC), and the Montgomery Journal’s all-county team.

Roger began working for the University of Virginia in 2001 after receiving his Counsel degree. He set the UVA free throw percentage record (86. 89%) while playing basketball for his college team.

NBA

Mason’s biggest dream was realized in 2002 when the Chicago Bulls selected him in the NBA draft. He had just begun his junior year of college at the time.

However, despite the fact that the Bulls and Mason had agreed to a multi-year contract, the Bulls traded Mason to the Toronto Raptors in 2003.

But Mason wasn’t retained by the Raptors for very long. He was released in 2004. He wasn’t performing as well in the NBA as he had in high school or college.

Roger was signed by the Washington Wizards in 2006 for a single season, but thanks to his strong play, he was re-signed the following season. In addition, his role on the team expanded, and he ultimately produced the best results in his career.

Mason’s career was limited after San Antonio released him from his contract. From 2011 to 2016, he made numerous changes to teams like the Washington Wizards, New Orleans Hornets, Miami Heat, and Sacramento Kings but he was unable to have a significant impact.

There are no records of Mason doing anything in the NBA after his final game in 2015.
