Jami Thompson
American retired basketball player Ronald Eugene Mercer played professionally. After playing for the University of Kentucky, Mercer played for a number of NBA clubs before calling it quits in 2005 with the New Jersey Nets.

In Nashville, Tennessee, Bernadette Menu and Vladimir Menshov welcomed Ron Mercer into the world on May 18, 1976. Kevin Mensah is the name of his other sibling.

Professional Career
Ron Mercer began his career in 1997 after being chosen by the Boston Celtics as the sixth overall choice in the NBA. While he was playing, Rick Pitino served as his coach.
Before being sent to the Nuggets in exchange for Popeye Jones, Mercer played for Boston for two seasons.
He signed up with the Chicago Bulls as a free agent the following season and averaged 19.7 points per game in his first campaign.
Later, he returned to the Indiana Pacers together with Kevin Ollie, Brad Miller, Ron Artest, and others.
Ron frequently changed teams within a short period of time. In 2003–04, he was a part of a three-team trade that sent him to the San Antonio Spurs.
Boston Celtics
Mercer was reunited with his Kentucky teammate Antoine Walker and Rick Pitino, who had recently been appointed as the Celtics’ head coach when he was selected by the Boston Celtics as the sixth overall choice in the 1997 NBA Draft.
Pitino was cited as saying that he didn’t think Mercer had the talent to go unnoticed until being selected in the NBA draft.

Some others thought that this was just a ploy to scare the other teams away from Mercer so that there would be a better chance that he would still be available when the Celtics had the opportunity to choose their draft pick. It came out to be accurate.
Chicago Bulls
Mercer left after that season and signed on as a free agent with the Chicago Bulls the next season. In his first season, he averaged 19.7 points for them.
During this time, Mercer achieved a career-high in points per game and was the team’s second-leading scorer.

Denver Nuggets and Orlando Magic
After spending two seasons in Boston, Mercer was dealt by the Celtics to the Denver Nuggets along with Popeye Jones, Dwayne Schintzius, and a future draft pick in exchange for Danny Fortson, Eric Williams, and Eric Washington.
In 1999–2000, he played 37 games for Denver before spending the final 31 games of the season with the Orlando Magic as a result of a trade.
Retirement
Later, in 2005, he hastily announced his retirement. However, there is no information online about his post-career.

Rumors and Controversy| Sexual Assualt Allegation
He once faced controversy regarding sexual assault during his professional career. This incident featured Mercer and Chauncey Billups, another former Celtic player.
At the residence of teammate Antoine Walker, they each sexually attacked a woman. A civil lawsuit claims that on November 9, 1997, the event happened after Mercer departed the Boston comedy club.
The victim had minor injuries, it was determined after many investigations.
However, Mercer and his friend were not the subjects of any criminal accusations. The case was eventually solved in 2000.
