Rudy Carlton Gay Jr. was born on August 17th, 1986, in Brooklyn, New York to his parents, Rudy Gay Sr and Rae Gay. Similarly, Rudy was raised in Baltimore, Maryland, alongside four siblings.

Rudy was named to the All-Baltimore Catholic League (All-BCL) first team and co-player of the year by the ‘Baltimore Sun’ during his senior year at Archbishop Spalding.

Similarly, Rudy chose the University of Connecticut over the University of Maryland to play college basketball, and as a rookie. And, Rudy averaged 11.8 points, 5.4 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 28.8 minutes in 31 games.

Further, As a sophomore, Rudy averaged 15.2 points, 6.4 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 30.8 minutes per game for the UConn Huskies in 33 games.

NBA Career

Rudy was selected by the Houston Rockets as the eighth pick in the 2006 NBA Draft on April 24th, 2006.

Similarly, Several days later, on July 12th, Rudy was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies, where he averaged 10.8 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 27 minutes in his rookie season.

Further, On July 8th, 2010, Rudy signed a five-year, $82 million contract with the Grizzlies, and on February 2nd, 2012, Rudy became the franchise’s all-time leading recruit.

Again, Rudy was traded to the Toronto Raptors on January 30th, 2013, after six seasons with the Grizzlies. And, In the same year, Rudy was traded to the Sacramento Kings on December 9th, 2013.

Similarly, During the 2014-2015 season, Rudy began to suffer from intermittent wounds that disrupted his diversion and game time.

Following, on January 18th, 2017, Rudy ruptured his left Achilles ligament, forcing him to miss the rest of his final season on contract with the Kings.

Further, Rudy was selected by the San Antonio Spurs on July 6th, 2017. Moreover, Rudy suffered right-heel damage in December of the same year, which sidelined him for a few weeks.
