They were once one of the most famous couples in the world, but that was more than a decade ago.
Shakira, the Colombian diva, and Gerard Pique, the Barcelona defender, confirmed their breakup on Saturday.
Shakira has revealed that she and her longtime boyfriend, Spanish soccer player Gerard Piqué, have broken up.
In a statement made by Shakira’s public relations office, the two stated, “We regret to confirm that we are splitting”. “We respectfully request that you respect our privacy for the sake of our children, who are our top priority.” Please accept my sincere gratitude for your patience.”
On the set of her music video for “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa),” which served as the official song of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, the 45-year-old “Hips Don’t Lie” singer met the 35-year-old footballer.
Milan, 9, and Sasha, 7, are the couple’s two sons.
After Spanish news outlet El Periodico stated that Piqué had moved out of their family home, the confirmation came.

Things appeared to be going well for the couple as recently as Valentine’s Day when Shakira posted a photo on social media to commemorate the event.
“Let’s whistle our way to 2022!” she captioned a shot of them kissing as they rang in the new year together.
… And the final wishes of 2021!”
Despite this, many fans thought the Super Bowl singer was about to come out of the closet when she changed her Twitter photo and header to a fading blend of pink, orange, and white, which represents the lesbian pride flag, last summer.
Fans’ suspicions were never addressed by the performer.
Interview with Shakira in 2020
Shakira revealed in a 2020 interview that she didn’t know who Piqué was because she “wasn’t a soccer fan” until she saw the video and thought he was “nice.”
Then someone introduced them to each other.

“We were together in South Africa, and I wrote to her,” Piqué told Spain’s TV3 in 2016.
“She was already there because she had performed in the opening ceremony, and I inquired about the weather.”
“It’s a usual dumb question… But she started telling me what the weather was like every minute, and I told her we [the Spanish squad] would have to get to the World Cup final to see her again — she was singing at the final.”
Spain won that year, and the duo announced their romance in 2011.
In a 2013 interview with Elle, the singer admitted to “becoming an agnostic” and “starting to believe that there was no God.” “And then the sun comes out and I meet Gerard.”
Shakira announced she was having her first child with Piqué in September 2012, and the baby was born on January 22, 2013.

Shakira paid tribute to Piqué after he resigned from international football, stating in Spanish,
“Love concluded the stage that we will always have in our hearts.” One of the finest moments of my life was seeing you triumph with the national team in 2010 and celebrate with the champions of Spain! Shak.”
The singer told The Guardian in 2019 about a difficult time in her life when she lost her voice and ability to sing due to a hemorrhage of her right vocal cord in 2017.

She stated in 2020 that she would like to be Piqué’s girlfriend rather than his wife.
“To tell you the truth, I’m terrified of getting married. I’d rather he didn’t think of me as his wife. She was cited as stating, “I’d rather he perceive me as his lover.”
Their breakup was announced earlier this month, amid rumors that the footballer had been cheating on her.
