Singer-songwriter Eilleen Regina “Shania” Twain OC is from Canada. She is the most popular female singer in country music history and one of the most successful performers of all time, with over 100 million records sold.

Early Life and Family

Eilleen Regina Edwards, better known as Shania Twain, was born in Windsor, Ontario, on August 28, 1965.

When Sharon and Clarence Edwards separated when she was two years old, Sharon’s mother relocated to Timmins, Ontario with her three daughters.

Jerry Twain, whom Sharon married and who gave the girls his last name, legally adopted the girls.

Twain has claimed that because of their parents’ limited money and the scarcity of food in their home, she had a difficult upbringing.

Shania often saw violence between her mother and stepfather because their relationship was already stressful.

When Sharon and Clarence Edwards divorced when she was two years old, Sharon’s mother and her three girls moved to Timmins, Ontario.

The girls were formally adopted by Jerry Twain, whom Sharon married and who gave them his last name.

How did Shania start her Career?

Twain joined the cover band Flirt after Longshot broke up, and while touring around Ontario with them, he continued to take voice lessons from Toronto voice teacher Ian Garrett.

Stan Campbell, a DJ in Toronto, noticed her and, despite the fact that she had no money, took her to Nashville to record demos. Mary Bailey, a regional country singer who adored Shania’s voice, became a friend of hers.

Twain, who was under contract to a record company, moved into Bailey’s home and started making demos and spending numerous hours every day perfecting her skill. John Kim Bell, a member of the Canadian Country Music Association, introduced himself to her.

After Longshot split up, Twain joined the cover band Flirt and continued taking voice lessons from Toronto voice teacher Ian Garrett while touring throughout Ontario with them.

She was discovered by Toronto DJ Stan Campbell, who took her to Nashville to record demos despite the fact that she had no money. She made friends with Mary Bailey, a local country singer who liked Shania’s voice.

Success On Her First Album

“Shania Twain,” Shania’s debut album, was released in 1993. When it was first released, this album wasn’t a major hit, but when her subsequent records catapulted her to popularity, it eventually sold one million copies.

Her fan base and listeners outside of Canada were increased by the album. Even though the album only peaked at position 67 on the US Country Albums Chart, reviews for it were generally favorable.

The Woman in Me, Shania’s 1995 album, was a turning point in her career. This record sold 4 million copies in its first year of release and eventually 12 million.

“Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under,” “You Win My Love,” and “No One Needs to Know” were among the top songs from the album “The Woman in Me.”

The album won both the Academy of Country Music Awards and the Grammy Award for Best Country Album.

Personal Life and Relationship

Robert John “Mutt” Lange, a producer, volunteered to work with Twain and co-write songs after hearing her original songs and voice on her debut album.

After meeting for the first time at Nashville’s Fan Fair in June 1993, they quickly grew close. They were married on December 28, 1993, and they welcomed a boy named Eja on August 12, 2001. (pronounced “Asia”).

On May 15, 2008, Lange and Twain made their split official following an affair with Marie-Anne Thiébaud, Twain’s best friend.
