Shawn Bradley is a popular German-American former professional basketball player. He is well-known for playing center for the Philadelphia 76ers, New Jersey Nets, and Dallas Mavericks of the National Basketball Association (NBA).

Early life, Childhood, and Education

He was born on 22nd March 1972 in Landstuhl, West Germany to his father, Reiner Bradley, and her mother, Teresa Bradley.

He holds German-American nationality and belongs to a mixed (African-American) ethnic background and his horoscope is Aries.

Shawn Bradley grew up in Landstuhl, West Germany later moved to America when his father was stationed in Utah. After that, he was raised on a farm just outside of Castle Dale, Utah.

Additionally, he has three siblings whose names are Justin, Adrianne, and Tasha Bradley. At an early age, he used to play basketball and football with his siblings and a few friends.

To pursue a basketball career, he entered the 1993 NBA Draft. Although, he was the Philadelphia 76ers’ second overall pick in the first round.

As he was 7 feet 6 inches tall, the 76ers assigned him jersey number 76. After that, Shawn became on the NBA All-Rookie Second Team.

Meanwhile, he suffered a kneecap injury during his rookie season in the NBA. After that, he set a record for the most blocks in a single season that year. Unfortunately, he had a low point-per-game average and was traded to the New Jersey Nets.

He was traded to the Nets during the 1995 season where he had his first triple-double with the Nets. Additionally,  he was the only NBA player to have two double-blocks in the same game.

Later on, he was traded to the Dallas Mavericks by the new Nets management. He scored 32 points against the Los Angeles Clippers where he was also unbeatable on defense and the best shot-blocker in 1997.

Additionally, he became the first NBA player to come off the bench and have at least 20 points, 20 rebounds, and ten blocks. Finally, he announced his retirement in 2005 due to his injuries.

Besides being a professional basketball player, he joined forces with West Ridge Academy.  He worked as a vice-principal, counselor, and coach in a private school.

Besides that, he ran for Utah’s 44th Congressional District as a Republican against Democratic Representative Tim Cosgrove.

Acting Career

He has also featured in television shows and films such as Space Jam, The Singles Ward, Studio C, and Walker, Texas Ranger.

Additionally, he was paralyzed after being hit by a motorist while riding his bicycle near his home in St. George, Utah.

Fined For A Strip Club Meeting

During his play career, the professional basketball player was fined $10 thousand for not attending a team meeting held in a strip club.

Although, the meeting was mandatory and strictly for players only. But his main priority before basketball was his religion.

Meanwhile, he chose not to attend the meeting and stay true to his morals and values. Due to his absence, the team fined him $10 thousand

Bradley shared that he had a spinal cord injury in the hospital after the bike accident. The incident happened when he was struck from behind by an automobile while riding his bicycle a mere block from his home in St. George, Utah.

Bradley was injured while riding his bicycle on 20th January 2021. Additionally, his former team the Dallas Mavericks said in a press release later that year.

The accident leads to a traumatic spinal cord injury that left him paralyzed. Although, Bradley needed a custom wheelchair, which costs more than most cars.
