Early Life, Family, and Education

Simon was born in Lambeth, London, England, United Kingdom, on October 7, 1959, his full name goes Simon Phillip Cowell. He is the son of ballet dancer Julie Cowell and music industry executive Eric Selig Phillip Cowell.

Elstree, Hertfordshire, is where he was raised. In addition to June Cowell, Simon has a younger brother named Nicholas Cowell and three half-siblings named John, Tony, and Michael Cowell.

At the independent Dover College and Radlett Preparatory School, Cowell pursued his interest in the English language and literature alongside his brother.

He then started working at Fanfare Records, where he stayed for eight years before BMG purchased the parent company. Then Cowell founded his own record label, S-Records.

Contrary to popular belief, Simon Cowel and S-Records’ first big break came from novelty releases based on popular TV shows like “The Wiggles” and “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.”

He persuaded two performers from the British television drama series “Soldier Soldier,” Robson Green and Jerome Flynn, to record the song “Unchained Melody” for him in 1995.

It was 1995’s top-selling single. According to Cowell, they reportedly helped him make his first million dollars.

Idol and other Shows

Cowell was chosen as a judge for the British television reality show “Pop Idol” in 2001. This program later spawned a global franchise that is now televised in more than 100 countries. We all know that Cowell went on to judge the Pop Idol edition of American Idol after that.

Cowell releases music from performers who have appeared on Syco TV, the sister company that creates “The X Factor,” “Britain’s Got Talent,” and “America’s Got Talent,” with the aid of Syco, his newest record label.
