Son Heung-Min was born in Chuncheon, Gangwon, South Korea, on July 8, 1992.

Heung-Yun Son, another sibling of Heung-Min who played soccer in lower-level German divisions and is now involved in the management of a young academy, is also a former player.

Son Woong-Jung, a former coach and soccer player for the South Korean national soccer B team, is the boy’s father. The mother of the son is Eun Ja Kil.

Son attended Seoul’s Dongbuk High School. Through the academy, he joined the FC Seoul young squad.

Following a succession of impressive performances, Bayer Leverkusen announced on June 13, 2013, that Son had signed a five-year contract worth a significant sum of money of €10 million ($10,374,650).

The transaction cost the Spurs $22.8 million ($22.82 million), making Heung-Min the most expensive Asian player in soccer history.

He had a sluggish start to his time with the Spurs. He started having more opportunities to succeed after he petitioned former Spurs coach Mauricio Pochettino for permission to leave the team to receive more playing time.


Son received his first Premier League Player of the Month honor on October 14, 2016. He also made history by becoming the first Asian to ever get the honor in the process.

After a series of even more goal-scoring performances, he was given the honor once more in April 2017.

With Dele Alli and Harry Kane, Son had established himself as a player of the highest caliber.

On November 5, 2017, he scored his 20th Premier League goal, breaking Park Ji-Sung’s previous record for most Asian goals in Premier League history.

A significant 5-year contract worth £22 million ($26,126,980) was also signed by him with the Spurs in July 2018.
