Sony Kevin Michel is a running back in the National Football League for the Miami Dolphins. He attended Georgia and was drafted in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots.

 Early Life, Family, and Education

Sony Kevin Michel, who was born on February 17, 1995, is a well-known American football player who plays the position of running back.

He was born in Florida to Jean Michel and Marie Michel and spent his childhood there. His family also includes a half-sister named Lamise and a brother named Marken, who is also a professional football player.

Michel was born in Haiti to Haitian parents. Sony and his parents married in 1991, and his older brother Marken was born in 1995.

Jean and Marie emigrated to the United States in search of a better life and future for their children.

Similarly, Sony began his education at American Heritage High School in Plantation, Florida.

He began playing football, but he also participated in track and field competitions. He enrolled at the University of Georgia shortly after graduating from high school.

College Career

Michel began his work at a young age. He began playing football in high school. Michel has 1,833 yards rushing and 24 touchdowns at the start of eighth grade.

Over the course of three years, he carried for 4,758 yards and scored 63 touchdowns.

Simultaneously, evaluated him as a five–star recruit, ranking him as the third-best running back and 13th-best athlete overall.

Similarly, after enrolling in university, he continued his football career and competed in a variety of events. He played eight games during his rookie year of college.

He was unable to participate in five more games due to a damaged shoulder. Michel did, however, score five running touchdowns while gaining 410 yards on 64 carries.

Sony debuted in 2015 as a backup to Nick Chubb. When Chubb was injured, he took over as the starter and ran for 145 yards.

He had a breakout year in October 2017, ending with 1,227 running yards (156 carries), only 118 yards less than Chubb’s 1,345 yards (223 carriers).

Professional Career

The New England Patriots picked Michel with the 31st overall choice in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft. He was named the third running back the same year.

He had to miss the whole preseason as well as the season opener against the Houston Texans. During training camp, he had a knee injury.

He finished his first season with six touchdowns and 931 running yards, as well as seven catches for 50 yards.

Similarly, he had 912 running yards, seven touchdowns, and 12 catches for 94 yards in the 2019 season. Michel faced the Miami Dolphins at the start of the season and carried 21 times for 83 yards.

He led the squad to a 33-7 away victory over the Washington Redskins with 91 yards and a score. Following that, Michel ran for 42 yards and three touchdowns in a 33-0 away victory.

Michel had offseason foot surgery during the early season of 2020, and he was placed on PUP (Physically Unable to Perform) before the start of training camp on August 2, 2020.

As a result, the running back was unable to participate in the first eight days of training camp. Damien Harris (backup running back) was able to flourish towards the conclusion of the month as a result of this.

Michel has received several honors and trophies throughout his life for his significant contribution to his football career.

He was also selected first-team All-USA in 2013. He was voted Colorado Gatorade Player of the Year the same year and was a semifinalist for the 2014 US Army Player of the Year.

In 2014, Sony was selected SEC freshman of the week. Similarly, he won the SEC Championship in 2017. In 2018, he won the Rose Bowl Championship and was named Rose Bowl Game MVP.

However, Michel’s most notable accomplishment was being named one of the most playoff rushing touchdowns. He set an NFL rookie record while playing.

He scored five goals between the conference and divisional championship games.

On February 3, 2019, he scored the only touchdown in Super Bowl LII against the Los Angeles Rams after running 18 times for 94 yards.

Not only that, but he once told local media that his girlfriend drove him to the hospital after he shattered his arm in an ATV accident.
