Steve Aoki was born in Miami, Florida on November 30, 1977, to Rocky Aoki and Chizuru Kobayashi. Rocky Aoki was the founder of the popular Japanese restaurant chain Benihana. Along with half-sister Devon Aoki, he has two older siblings: brother Kevin and sister Kana.

Early Career
Aoki began his career as a DJ and promoter in the early 2000s, throwing parties and organizing events in the Los Angeles area. In 1996, he founded the Dim Mak record label, which became known for its eclectic and diverse roster of electronic and indie artists.
One of the label’s first releases was “Warp” by The Bloody Beetroots, which became a club hit and helped to establish the label’s reputation.
In the late 2000s, Aoki began to gain recognition as a solo artist in his own right. In 2008, he released his debut album, “Pillowface and His Airplane Chronicles,” which featured collaborations with a variety of artists including Zuper Blahq (will.i.am), Rivers Cuomo of Weezer, and LMFAO.

Aoki’s breakthrough came with the release of his second album, “Wonderland,” in 2012. The album featured collaborations with a wide variety of artists, including Lil Jon, Chiddy Bang, and Wynter Gordon, and was a commercial success, reaching #15 on the Billboard Dance/Electronic Albums chart.
Since the year 2012, Steve Aoki has released several albums, including “Neon Future I” (2014), “Neon Future II” (2015), “Kolony” (2017), “Neon Future III” (2018), and “Neon Future IV” (2019). He has also remixed many songs for different artists, including Linkin Park, Duran Duran, and will.i.am, Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez, and many more.

Aoki released “Neon Future IV,” his most recent album, on April 3, 2020. The “Neon Future Dinner Series” YouTube program was introduced by Aoki in 2020.
