He made his professional debut on March 27, 2010, playing the full 90 minutes in New York’s 1-0 victory over Chicago Fire in the 2010 Major League Soccer season opener.

He scored his first professional goal on September 11, 2010, as the New York Red Bulls defeated the Colorado Rapids 3-1.

Ream helped New York win its second regular-season Eastern Conference championship by starting all 30 of the team’s matches in his debut season as a professional.

Ream played and started in 28 of the 34 regular-season games during his second season in New York; he missed 6 games primarily due to international call-ups during the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup.

With permission from the Red Bulls, Ream briefly trained with West Bromwich Albion and Bolton Wanderers in December 2011 during the MLS off-season in order to keep up his fitness.

Beginning in January 2012, Bolton made a £2.5 million transfer bid for him. He acquired a work visa on January 24 after the bid was accepted and personal terms were agreed upon.

In their opening 2011 Gold Cup match, a 2-0 victory over Canada, Ream made his debut.

He also started the United State’s second game against Panama, which they lost 2-1 to suffer their first-ever Gold Cup group-stage defeat.

He fouled Blas Pérez in the 34th minute, which led to a penalty kick for Panama. Gabriel Gómez successfully converted the penalty, which ended up winning the game.

He was replaced by Eric Lichaj in the following game against Guadeloupe and did not participate in the 2011 Gold Cup’s remaining four games.

Ream’s deal with Bolton was finalized on January 26, 2012, and it was for three and a half years. In order to sign with Bolton, he postponed his marriage.

He received the number 32 jersey and made his club debut on February 18 in Bolton’s 2-0 FA Cup victory at Millwall.

The next weekend, he made his Premier League debut in Bolton’s 3-0 loss at Chelsea. He contributed to Darren Pratley’s opening goal in a 2-1 victory over Queens Park Rangers on March 10, 2012.

Toward the end of the season, he continued to play in ten straight games, but he was unable to save the team from Premier League relegation.

Gary Cahill’s former number 5 jersey was assigned to Ream for the start of the 2012–13 campaign. The 2-0 loss to Burnley marked his first start of the 2012–13 campaign.

Ream was rumored to be moving to Middlesbrough ahead of the 2013–14 season, but both the club and Ream rejected this.

Furthermore, He started as a defensive midfielder for four games in September after making appearances in the previous three games just as an unused replacement.

Similarly, He was compelled to use a protective mask in Wanderers games beginning in early February 2014 as a result of a collision with Queens Park Rangers striker Charlie Austin.

Ream played left back and center defense throughout the 2013–14 season, where he formed a partnership with Matt Mills and earned his spot in the first team by making 42 appearances.

He received both the club’s and the fans’ player of the year awards at the conclusion of that campaign.

Ream returned to the U.S. national team in 2013 after a two-year layoff, making his debut on August 14 against Bosnia and Herzegovina as an unused substitute.

His most recent international appearance was on September 3, 2014, when he participated for 45 minutes in a 1-0 victory against the Czech Republic.

Furthermore, Ream renewed his three-year deal with Bolton on July 6, 2014, ahead of the 2014–15 season, and it runs through the summer of 2017.

Additionally, he made a total of 44 appearances throughout the season, missing just two games—one due to injury and the other because he was an unutilized substitute against Derby County on September 27, 2014.

Moreover, He was awarded Bolton’s player of the year for the second consecutive year.

Ream was linked to a move to Championship rivals Queens Park Rangers before the 2015–16 season, and they made a bid for him. The offer, however, was turned down.

Ream was acquired by Fulham on August 20, 2015, and they later agreed to a four-year contract. He has the option to stay another year after the move for an unknown amount.

On August 29, 2015, he played 90 minutes and made his Fulham debut in a 3-1 victory over Rotherham United.

In his first season, he made 29 appearances for the club, in part because of injuries and commitments to other countries.
