Todd Gurley is an American free agent running back in the National Football League. He attended Georgia University and was named All-SEC in 2012 and 2013. Gurley was selected tenth overall by the St. Louis Rams of the National Football League in the 2015 NFL Draft.

Early Life, Family & Education

Todd Gurley, an NFL running back, was born on August 3, 1994, in Baltimore, Maryland, to Todd Gerome Gurley and Darlene Simmons.

Gurley also has four siblings: Princeton, Davon, Shannon, and Tarik.

Todd was named Rocky Mount Telegram All-Area Offensive Player of the Year during the 2010 season as a result of his performance.

Gurley also won the North Carolina Associated Press Player of the Year as a senior in high school, with 38 touchdowns and 2,600 yards.

Career and Profession

Todd started his freshman season for Georgia as a backup to redshirt sophomore Ken Malcome.

Gurley gained 100 yards on eight carries, including two rushing touchdowns, in his first game against the Buffalo Bulls.

Todd also took over as starter against SEC East opponent Missouri in the second game of the season, rushing for 65 yards on ten carries in a 41–20 victory.

Todd became the second true freshman in Georgia history to rush for 1,000 yards during the game against Georgia Southern, joining Herschel Walker in 1980.

Similarly, in the 42–10 victory over Georgia Tech in the regular-season finale, Todd had 12 carries for 97 yards and two rushing touchdowns.

Professional Career

Matt was selected by the St. Louis Rams in the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft as the 10th overall pick. Todd was the first running back drafted out of the University of Georgia since Tim Worley in 1989.

Todd’s recovery from the injury he sustained during his final collegiate game was completed ahead of schedule.

He did not play in the team’s preseason and practiced without pads. Todd was cleared to play by the St. Louis medical team shortly after.

He eased into the game and finished with six rushes for nine yards.

Todd scored his first NFL touchdown on October 25, 2015, against the Browns in a Week 7 game.

Todd became the most prolific rusher in his first four NFL tournaments thanks to his 566 yards in his first four NFL starts.

Furthermore, Todd’s jersey and cleats were inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame during Week 8.

Similarly, Todd scored a touchdown and rushed for 48 yards in Week 15, becoming the third rookie in Rams history to rush for 1,000 yards in a season.

Furthermore, in Week 15, Todd scored four touchdowns for the first time in his career, becoming the first Ram to do so.

His Week 15 performance earned him NFC Offensive Player of the Week honors. Todd was named a starter in the second Pro Bowl on December 19, 2017.

Similarly, Todd caught ten passes for 158 yards, including two receiving touchdowns, and rushed for 118 yards in Week 16, earning him NFC Offensive Player of the Week honors for the second consecutive week.

Todd was also named NFC Offensive Player of the Month for the second time that season. In addition, he finished the season as the league’s leading scorer with 114 points.
