Toni Romo, a former American football quarterback Juan Antonio now works as an analyst. He spent 14 seasons with the Dallas Cowboys, playing in the National Football League as well.

He played collegiate football at Eastern Illinois, where he participated in the Ohio Valley Conference championship game.

In 2001, he also received the Walter Payton Award. Undrafted free agent Romo signed with the Cowboys in 2003.

The football player played for the Illinois Panthers while a student at Eastern Illinois University. In addition, he belonged to Sigma Pi.

He had a fairly successful college career and, in his sophomore year, was ranked second in Division I-AA for passing efficiency. He eventually finished first in Division I-AA for passing efficiency in his junior year.

In addition, he earned unanimous All-America recognition and became the first Illinois Panther to win the Walter Payton Award. He made history by becoming the first player to win the OVC Player of the Year award three years in a row.

After his induction into the EIU Hall of Fame and homecoming game in 2009, the EIU retired his jersey number 17.

NFL Career

Early Seasons

He was a good player, but the 2003 NFL draft did not include him. Later on, though, he was given the chance to play for the Dallas Cowboys and Denver Broncos as an undrafted free agent.

He chose the Cowboys over the Broncos despite receiving less money from them. He was only a holder in the early seasons. When he scored the go-ahead touchdown against the Oakland Raiders.

Tony filled in for Drew Bledsoe during the 2006 season, and in his first game as a starter, he helped the Cowboys defeat the Carolina Panthers. He also contributed to their victory over the Indianapolis Colts.

He also helped the Cowboys win a game on Thanksgiving and was given the FOX Galloping Gobbler Award. Romo and the Cowboys had a successful 2007 season thanks to their victory over the New York Giants in their opening contest.

After that, they defeated the St. Louis Rams, Chicago Bears, and Miami Dolphins. In October 2008, he agreed to a $67.5 million, six-year extension with the Cowboys.

Later Seasons/ Injuries

In 2010, the quarterback recorded a career-high 406 yards and three touchdowns, but injuries prevented him from improving. He was on leave for the remainder of the season after breaking his left clavicle.

With only four seconds left, he returned and tied the game with a touchdown, forcing overtime. Romo won the game for which he was named NFC’s Offensive Player of the Week by attempting a game-winning goal with a teammate.

He suffered a severe hand bruise shortly after, but he continued to play a week later. The athlete and the Cowboys agreed to a six-year, $108 million football contract in 2013.

After having surgery to remove a cyst, he later helped his team defeat the Giants. But he ultimately developed a herniated disk and was placed on the injured reserve list. Tony and the Cowboys won six consecutive games in the 2014 season.

Once more, a rival teammate’s knee struck him in the back, inflicting a back injury. The Cowboys did not manage to win a single game while he was away. When he returned, his left shoulder had been hurt once more, and he was on injured leave.
