Raymond Anthony Brooks well known as Tony Brooks was born in the United States city of Tulsa on August 17, 1969.

Few people are familiar with his early life, parents, or childhood. However, it is well known that he grew up with his brother, former NFL running back Reginald Arthur Brooks, better known by his stage name Reggie Brooks.

Reggie has 1,726 yards and seven touchdowns in the NFL as a career rusher while playing for teams like the Washington Redskins and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

His next stop was the University of Notre Dame, where he joined the Fighting Irish football team as a student-athlete.

As mentioned earlier, Tony played high school football at Booker T. Washington High School. He later participated in NCAA football for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish of the University of Notre Dame.

Throughout his college career, which included their final national championship in 1988, he led all Fighting Irish running backs in rushing. With 667 yards, Tony finished as the second-leading rusher.

Similar to this, he rushed for 2,274 yards for Notre Dame in 1987-1988 and 1990-1991.

His best college season, though, was in 1991, when he gained 894 yards and averaged 6.1 on the ground.

Tony was an aggressive player, according to Cedric Figaro, a teammate from Notre Dame. He ran with brutality. Cedric recalled that he was a football player with a bad mouth.

After excelling in college football, Tony was chosen by the Philadelphia Eagles in the fourth round of the 1992 NFL Draft.

However, he was unable to be successful in the league. Let’s just say that his days as a star athlete after college were over.

Brooks did not receive a single carry in the five games he played throughout his two seasons with the Eagles. He mostly collaborates with special teams.

Health Issues

Tony Brooks was found to have a brain aneurysm on January 4, 2009. It happened halfway through Anthony’s junior high school career.

After Tony began to feel uncomfortable and lightheaded, his wife Kelly-Brooks, a surgical RN, went with him to the hospital. Afterward, it was found that Tony had a brain aneurysm.

After first spending a month in a medically induced coma, he has now recovered to a nearly normal state. Similarly to that, he had rehabilitation at a hospital for an extra month.

Tony is also unable to retain recent information. He has an eight-inch surgical scar that runs from the top of his head to behind his left ear.

Brooks hasn’t had any physical limits, but his wife Kelly claims that her husband has suffered a mental metamorphosis.

Kelly has also said that their financial situation has been difficult as a result of Tony’s unemployment. Due to financial constraints, Tony was never able to witness Anthony play for UCLA in person.

The mother of Anthony Barr, Lori Barr, and Tony Brooks dated for three years at the beginning of the 1990s.

Tony had recently completed an outstanding Notre Dame football career, and he would then play for the NFL for two seasons after that.

Anthony, the couple’s son, was conceived on March 18, 1992.

Shortly after the two broke up, Anthony’s mother, Lori, relocated back to her native Los Angeles from St. Mary’s, a sister institution of Notre Dame in the South Bend, Indiana, area.

Later, Tony married Kelly Brooks, a nurse at South Bend’s St. Joseph Regional Medical Center.

Though Kelly raised Anthony primarily by herself. Tony continued to see his child, but his visits grew less frequent as time passed.

Father’s Son Relationship

Even though Anthony maintained his father’s jumbled football ambitions, they do not appear to be particularly close.

It could be that Anthony has never really valued Tony as a key part of his life.

Barr was mostly raised by his single mother despite the frequent visits from his father.

Moreover, Tony never witnessed Anthony play at UCLA between 2010 and 2013, during which time Barr spent his first two seasons as a running back and his final two as a linebacker.

Since Brook’s aneurysm, the father and son have never actually met in person until Anthony fractured his leg as a senior at Loyola High School.

After that, they first ran into each other when Anthony took his mother to a Notre Dame vs. Washington game in South Bend in October 2009.

Like his brother, Reggie attended Booker T. Washington High School and was a standout football player there.

Tony Brooks’ financial condition took a severe hit when his health deteriorated and he lost his job.

He then spent most of his time visiting hospitals and rehabilitation centers.

He lost his ability to visit his son and watch his games as his financial circumstances deteriorated.
