Anthony Allen Kemp is an Oakland Athletics second baseman and outfielder (MLB). He was previously with the Houston Astros and Chicago Cubs in Major League Baseball. In 2017, Kemp and the Astros won the World Series.

Tony Kemp was born Anthony Allen Kemp on October 31, 1991. Rick Kemp and Catherine Kemp, his parents, raised him somewhere in Franklin, Tennessee, in the United States.

Professional Life and Career

Amateur

Kemp began his playing career at Centennial High School in Franklin, Tennessee. He began his college baseball career as soon as his high school studies were over.

He enrolled at Vanderbilt University and began playing baseball for the Commodores.

In 2011, he had a fantastic start to his college baseball career, with numerous game-winning efforts.

Kemp and his teammates broke the record by leading the Vanderbilt baseball club to its first College World Series appearance.

At Vanderbilt, Tony played with MLB talents Kevin Ziomek, Conard Gregor, and Spencer Navin.

He was named Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Year at the end of the 2011 season.

Most importantly, after a record-breaking season, he was named to the All-SEC First Team. He joined the Cotuit Kettleers of the Cape Cod Baseball League in the summer of 2012.

Vanderbilt went 56-12 in his junior year, including a conference-best 26-3 mark. Kemp was a standout player for Vanderbilt that season.

He had a team-high. 391 batting average, 34 stolen bases, and six triples.

Kemp later stated that his senior year at Vanderbilt was his greatest. Assistant coach Larry Day and batting coach Travis Jewett are credited with his accomplishment. He was named SEC Baseball Player of the Year at the end of the season.

He was also chosen to the first-team All-American and All-SEC teams.

Astros of Houston

The Houston Astros selected Anthony Allen Kemp in the fifth round of the 2013 MLB Draft after a stellar season at Vanderbilt.

He began playing with the Corpus Christi Hooks of the Double-A Texas League after signing his first professional contract.

His outstanding play earned him a mid-season promotion to the Fresno Grizzlies of the Pacific Coast League (PCL). He was invited to play in the 2015 All-Star Futures Game after the season ended.

In May, he was called up to the first team after starting the new season with the Grizzlies. He made his long-awaited MLB debut on May 17, 2016.

Then he split his time between the Astros and the Fresno Grizzlies for the rest of the season.

He began the 2017 season with Fresno once again. Teoscar Hernandez’s injury in April allowed him to return to the Houston Astros. Kemp batted.216 with four RBIs in 17 games for the Astros that season.

Kemp was on the Astros’ 40-man playoff roster. He didn’t play in the World Series victory for the Houston Astros. Despite this, he was crowned champion for the first time.

Kemp continues to dazzle his fans in 2018 with fantastic performance after impressive performance. In 97 games in the MLB, he hit.263/.351/.392 with 30 RBI. He mostly played left field.

In addition, he had some disappointing performances in the 2019 season. With 7 home runs (a career-high) and 17 RBIs, he batted.227/.308/.417. After the season, he was eventually dealt with the Chicago Cubs by the Astros.
