Tristan Jarry, a goalie with the Pittsburgh Penguins of the NHL, is a professional ice hockey player from Canada.

The Penguins selected Jarry in the middle round (44th altogether) of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.

Professional Career

Jarry played in 14 games during the 2011–12 6WHL season, averaging a save percentage of 0.894. At the start of this season, he signed with the Edmonton Oil Kings.

The next year, while playing once more with the Edmonton Oil Kings, Jarry finished first among all goalies in the league with an aggregate save % of 0.936 as well as a goals-against-average of 1.6.

After that, he put on an outstanding display in the 2013 CHL Top Prospects Game by turning aside all 16 shots that were aimed at him. He was then honored as Player of the Match for Team Cherry as a result of his accomplishment.

Additionally, the following season he was chosen for the WHL Eastern Conference First All-Star Team for the 2013–14 season (2013–14).

Pittsburgh Penguins

Tristan Jarry was then sent to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on April 7, 2015. Injured goalies Marc-André Fleury and Matt Murray were replaced by Jarry on April 9, 2016, and he was given the number 35 by the Pittsburgh Penguins.

After playing in the Penguins’ first two postseason games, Jarry was sent to the minors after Matt Murray’s return.

Tristan was nonetheless recalled as a backup goalkeeper on May 19. Jarry was ineligible to be on the cup since he didn’t play for Pittsburgh in the 2015–16 season and didn’t get the Stanley Cup ring.

Memorial Cup

The next day, on September 28, 2016, Jarry made 30 saves in his first NHL warm-up match while trying to wipe the Chicago Blackhawks. This performance was exceptional.

When he was chosen for the 2017 All-Star game, he received the Harry “Hap” Holmes Memorial Award. He helped Wilkes-Barre finish the regular season with the best record, and on April 9 he was moved to the NHL as a consequence.

Jarry made his NHL debut on April 10 as he started for the Penguins team that lost to the New York Rangers, 3-2. Later, during the 11 games that Matt Murray missed due to injury, Jarry played in a postseason uniform.

Contract Extension with the Penguins

On November 25, 2017, Jarry assisted and won his first NHL game against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Jarry was re-signed by the Penguins on July 26, 2018, to a 2-year, $1.35 million contract, bringing his yearly salary to $650,000.

In 2018–19 and 2019–20, this renewal was a two-way agreement; in 2020–21, it was a one-way arrangement. Sadly, Tristan suffered an injury on September 28 when the Penguins played the Columbus Blue Jackets in the last preseason game.

2018-11-14 Wilkes-Barre won 5-1 over the opposition. Jarry will start a 3-year, $10.5 million contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins on October 3, 2020.

A few days later, the Penguins secured Tristan’s position as their starting goaltender by trading Matt Murray to the Ottawa Senators.


Effect After missing as of April 14 due to a foot injury, Jarry appears to be close to making a comeback. For Pittsburgh, Louis Domingue will once again get the beginning in Game six, even if Jarry may be considered for Game seven if needed.
